i just bought 15 qts of the stuff over the last couple days. I have seen two VOA's on this site and the 5w30 looked way different than the 10w30 so im not sure if the analyzers were off or if there was a real difference. i bought the 10w30 as im not concerned with cold weather here in NC. Ill probably run it in my blazer for three oil changes.

Takes maybe 3 OCI to get all the ring pack varnish out. I see the same thing. And the motor aint too happy during the cleanup either. I would stay with the same brand/add pack for 3 oci. Other wise the cleanup and add pack "changing of the guards" may never end.

I switched to Castrol Edge in my Corvette, due to high lead (wear ?) readings in the last 3 years with Mobil 1. It will still be 6 months until a UOA. I am guessing that in that time a lot of UOAs will be published and it will be a great oil.

I too have noticed a quieter engine with it.

OTOH, GC is made for such applications, and it carries a number of Euro long drain approvals, while US market Edge does not.

I definitely didn't mean the 30 weight Edge. It is too thin for my taste, also. Yes, GC 0w30 and M1 0W-40 are in my favorites list for turbo vehicles that need a weight in that range... but I think a xW-40 or xW-50 Edge would be good, also. I just don't know their availability in the USA, yet.

Got ya.
Edge to date is only available in this country as a 5W or 10W30.
Why Castrol failed to offer other weights I cannot imagine.
Heck, you could argue that 10w30 is an obsolete weight, so why bother?
Is the Edge sold here the same blend as the Edge sold in Europe?
Dunno, although the BP folks do.
Note that US market Edge carries no Euro manufacturer approvals, which makes me wonder whether it is really any better than any other run of the mill Grp III product.
