Has anyone looked at Castrol's PDS for Edge with Titanium recently? I know Castrol's PDS' are generally ridiculed here, but one would hope they would at least get the viscosity right.

In this case, the cSt at 100C for 5w30 is listed as 9.8 and th 5w20 at 9.1. In other words, in the same product, Castrol is making a very "thin" 5w30 and a very "thick" 5w20. For all intents and purposes, the two seem interchangeable.

I haven't been able to find anything here to compare to the PDS. Do these PDS figures seem right to anyone?

I'm looking for a light 5w30 and would like to give Edge a try, but am not at all certain I know what I would be buying.

Thanks.

I am running Edge FST Ti 5w20 in our KIA and I really, really like it. Very smooth and quiet and KIA's are known to be a bit noisy. I'll be doing a used oil analysis at 7k we are at 5k on it now.

The spec discrepancies you mentioned are pretty standard for Castrol. They have been pretty slow to get on the "thin is in" band wagon especially with their 5w20's which you noticed. Castrol is not big on VI either most of their offerings are fairly low, you can't really look at the kv@100 and decide it's thin I'd wager the HTHS is typical for a 5w30 it just has a low VI.

If you want a "thin" 5w30 PP would be the ticket, but Edge is a very, very good oil much better IMO than it gets credit for around here. It would probably get more respect if they'd be more forthcoming on the pds listings. The PQIA and Amsoil both tested oils recently and Edge looked surprisingly good in both.

Edge FST is an outstanding oil. I would be running it full brew in my Charger but I had both so I mixed them (see sig). It is a top tier like Mobil 1 Extended Performance or PU IMO. Go for it with confidence.

The VI is listed as 166 and the hths as "OK", which I guess means it has an hths. So that's helpful...

Running Edge (gold bottle)
10W-30 in my beater
And 5w30 in my good car.

Found it for $4.00 a quart...

Really quiet and smooth, using an oversize filter, Fram 3600 instead of 3614 equivalent (A gold colored Purolator, can't remember the number)

Car is dead quiet, and Saturns are known for clogging oil drainback groove resulting in ring wear, another good reason to use Edge or synthetic...

I'm running the 0w20 variety in my taurus. I'm going to go to 10K and do a used oil analysis or I might just keep going to 15K as I have a FU filter on it... I did have intake manifold gaskets changed but had a short OCI to flush that stuff out.

I don't remember ever seeing a post from anyone running the Edge FST Ti that didn't seem to like it. I really think it is 10k-15k oil... I am only changing at 7k due to the KIA warranty requirements. I'll bet the used oil analysis will show it's not close to done at 7k.

The new Castrol Edge is a really good oil IMO. Did well in Amsoil's comparison testing fwiw.

I've been testing this oil in my S2000. I really like it. The two used oil analysis I did with 5w30 showed shearing, but not too bad. Wear protection was excellent, even with high fuel dilution. I just sent a sample in of 10w30 and re-filled with 10w30 to compare the two grades. I'm hoping the 10w30 used oil analysis shows better shear stability, less fuel contamination, and equal wear protection. I say this only because the 10w30 has virtually no valve train noise on start-up. The 5w30 was pretty quiet too though.
