Castrol Edge bottle measuring line unuseable

Eyeball enough to get it close and check he dipstick as you pour in the last qt.

Never throw away dregs either, save em up and eventually you get a free oil change!

There's always a solution, if you're prepared to look for it.

I didn't have any other bottle to throw away the old oil or save the extra.

But it was already *in* a bottle, right?

How do you do if you don't got a dipstick?

I can't measure squat properly from any markings on any oil jug. I have a measuring jug from Partsource or Peavey Mart, I forget which, that has a capacity around 4.5 litres, and measures much more accurately than I really need to (i.e. something like 100 mL graduations). However, it comes in very handy because I use a few oddball container sizes, particularly due to using HDEOs. A five gallon pail has to be measured into something, after all.

Additionally, perhaps it's just revenge by the jug manufacturer for Wakefield's bizarre 4.4 L size, or the fact that they adore using three different sizes of jugs, being the 4 L, 4.4 L, and 5 L.

IKR!

They don't make sense!

My current car and 2 previous cars had 9 qt sumps. I did not measure 9 quarts exactly -- I poured in "about 8" and then just kept checking the dipstick until it showed in the "OK" zone. I don't even know the exact quantity that went in. It's not like there's going to be a catastrophic problem if I put in 8.9 quarts.

1 liter less in a 4 liters oil sump does make a difference.

Likewise if you overfill it with 1 extra liter you will see some funny blue smoke coming out of its tail.

No argument there, but how are you overfilling or underfilling by a whole liter? Even if my reaction time is slow, I'd still be able to keep it within a 1/4 L.

When you look through the hole instead of the line, you can't really make out how much is left in the bottle when it's almost empty.

Example: I needed 4L in my engine from 5L bottle but I couldn't see anything so I eyeballed it instead by looking inside with a flash light when the bottle was low.

Right? I've never measured oil so precisely. My Cruze takes 4.8 qts so i put in the better part of 5 qts. I'll leave a little behind and check it later. Measuring cups??
Our Impala takes 4.5 qts, Ill gaurantee Ive put in more then that every time. Other two vehicles take perfect qt amounts, 4 and 6 so thats easy.

If you saved few liter/quart bottles you can use it to save a liter from 5 liters jug, the remaining is 4 liters for your engine.

Some jugs/bottles have clear line and some don't.

Just wait until Walmart Canada or CT gets one of their perplexing pallets of GTX in 4 L jugs.

I can't say I've seen either black or gold bottle in 4 L jugs, but the GTX does on occasion for a promotion. Equally odd is that M1 will turn up in 4 L jugs for specials, on occasion.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I already bought a measuring cup from the dollar store $1

The only reason I filled with 4L was b/c I didn't change the filter.

Usually fills the engine fine with 4.4L

Which one? I fear using one if I were to get a pail because the exact measurement 4.4L is not the full bottle but rather 5 inches below the full bottle.

I had the same problem. My Sentra takes 3 quarts and it was awful to read the strip on the jug.
So the next time I bought Valvoline synthetic and the jug was easy to read.
I just want to change my oil and not pretend I'm cooking with extra measuring gadgets.

It looks just like this:

I pour oil in up close to full, then to top if off exactly, I inject droplets via a microliter syringe to get it to the nearest nanometer to the full mark on the dipstick.

Better living through chemistry, you see.

Where did you get that?
