I've been noticing recently that a lot of garages and quick-lubes in my area use Castrol oil. Mr. Lube, Costco, Active Green+Ross, Firestone Tire and (I think) Speedy all feature Castrol oils as their house brand. Has Castrol been going out of its way recently to woo the quick-lube market? I know a lot of places change brands frequently simply based on price, so this could just be temporary coincidence, or is it a main focus of theirs to get their product out in this way?

I wonder if castrol buys the sign if their name is on it somewhere.

Kind of like those "pepsi" 4th of July mylar banners chambers of commerce spread across Main streets of small towns USA.

It's funny, I was going to post this observation again, but I found I already have!

Statement still hold true - Speedy does use Castrol, and now CT's 'quick-lube' features Castrol. Castrol definetly 'owns' to 'do-it-for-me' market up here!

Suprised this post didn't get a lot of discussion firts time around - wonder if it will now, considering the BP disaster - you'd expect to see a shift in some companies preferences, but it hasn't happened!

I think the Firestones & Goodyear/Gemini around here use Kendall lube...but I'm sure it varies by location. Perhaps they are run by the same owner who purchases from Conoco.

Most tire shops and garages around here use 'non-brand' lubes...Wolf's Head & Agip seem to supply the cheapest around here and lots of places use it. I've also noticed that while these places have cheap oil changes, ($20 for 5 qts + filter), they say on their advertisements that it applies only for bulk 10w30. Hondas, Fords and other 5w20 vehicles should probably avoid those deals.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change places are the dominant 'commercial' oil change franchises....seems like there is one every 10 mile stretch of road.

Goodyear/Gemini around here used to use Kendall, but switched to Valvoline.

We just switched to Pennzoil from Quaker State. Ill never hear the end of The Pennzoil myth either. I need to make a run up the road one of these days to the other TLE in the area and find out what they are using. It was Castrol. I dont know if it changed.
