I bought a new rear-engine rider about 10 years ago that has a 10 hp Briggs & Stratton air-cooled OHV engine. At the time I found a deal on Valvoline Synthetic 10w30 (recommended weight) and bought a case. Oil has been changed yearly since new, and the engine doesn't use any oil and the oil comes out clean.
The Valvoline Synthetic is now gone and I just got some 5w30 Castrol Syn Blend. Looking for opinions on the Castrol vs. the Valvoline. I know the Valvoline was an old spec and as such had higher amounts of ZDDP. Does the Castrol have other anti-wear agents in it that will protect as well as the Valvoline?
Current B&S recommendations are for 5w30 synthetic with no temperature limit, or 5w30 conventional with a 40*F max limit. Is the syn-blend, which is Dexos rated, close enough to a synthetic to use in the summer?
