I have a six-pack of Castrol Syntec Blend 5w-30 that I acquired, and I don't want to use it in vehicles.

What about these engines, in your opinion:

6HP B&S mower
5HP Tecumseh chipper
3HP B&S tiller

YZF150, sure. Unless any of those are badly worn and consuming a great deal of oil, I'd use the Syntec Blend ... a blend of mostly Group II and a little Group III.

I don't have any charts handy so I don't know which region you live in. As long as it doesn't get too hot, I'd consider the 5W30 to be OK for short interval use.

Is the term "synthetic blend" different than the term "semi-synthetic"?
I thought a synthetic blend was a blend of various synthetic base oils, where as a semi synthetic was a mix of conventional and synthetic base oils.

In this oil, Group III and Group II oils. Group III is Castrol's so-called "synthetic".

user, they should be the same thing: "semi-synthetic" and "synthetic blend," that is.

When casting dispersions on Group III oils claiming to be synthetic (as I often do) I call them "Group III pretenders" or "Psuedo-synthetics."
