I know that both of these oils are great. If price was not an object between these two oils, which one would edge the other out in performance?

I have a 97 F150 with the 4.6 and am thinking about using one of these oils.

I have been using the Valvoline Max Life 5w30 in my truck which is good oil however, the place that I am now buying oil from, does not carry it.

For various reasons(no more AC Delco, Motor Craft and Shrade Knives at "W"), I am not buying oil from Walmart anymore nor Fram filters. Just trying to help out the little man in my community.

By the way, the Castrol and Havoline at this parts store are the same price $1.99.

Havoline can be had for cheap and it performs as good as a synthetic in the right application.

I suppose $1.99/qt might be considered by some to be an ok price for a "parts store", but Halvoline in my area is generally $1.50 or less at Wal-Mart, KMart and several other places. Maybe not important if the F150 is the only vehicle you'll be dealing with but I would say check on other pricing if the opportunity arises.

I'm not a wally world fan at all. But you can't blame WW about Schrade knives. Schrade closed their doors in July 2004.

From what I've read, Wally World is the reason Schrade had to close. A high percentage of Schrade business was contracted with Walmart and when asked by Walmart to bring there prices down even more, Schrade could not. So the "W" quit using them and went to the Chinese made Winchester knives.

I would assume that this is why Wally World does not handle AC Delco and Motor Craft any more because they could not make there product cheaper.

The reason why WalMart does not sell MotorCraft any more is the Ford Dealers.

They complained that the customers were buying Ford approved oil and filters for less than they were getting it from Ford.

It was the dealers who stopped the "flow" of oil into Walmart.

Take care, Bill

I can usually find oil at other places cheaper than WM... especially when they are on sale. My favorite place now is Checkers... got my last few cases of Havoline and Chevron for $0.49/qt after mail-in rebate.

I use less with Castrol or Kendall of the same weight. Havoline is real good oil, but I wouldn't pay that price. For instance. Rite-Aid had it on sale last week for 99 cents ... no coupon or rebate. I hate Wal*Marts too... but it's hard to pass up their everyday Havoline big jug price at around $6.50.
