Did older 0w40 not have bmw certs?
How old?
Makes total sense given the approvals.
It was dropped when BMW updated their certs in 2018.
Then I doubt oil that old would be at an auto zone.
Then there’s no way 2018 oil is sitting at an AutoZone.
If the oil you looked at was produced anything more than about nine months ago, to approximately 4.5 years ago, it would not have the BMW certs on the bottle.
Interesting, now that is a possibility.
Let me frame it another way. It takes time for older product to flush out of the system.
Perhaps that’s why it’s been hard to find lately.
I misspoke..0w40 was updated 9 months ago it was 0w30 which was just recently updated. In any case it takes time for old stock to move. We just don't know how that part of the business operates.
Is there a consensus yet about which formula is better? Current vs older formula from 9 months ago?
There is no way such a determination could be made. At least not one that is substantive.
Your username is a VW, why are you worried about BMW certs?
Castrol added LL01 nine months ago after a 4 yr hiatus. Any oil with LL01 today is a better product than the same product which had LL01 prior to 2018.
