I have a gallon of Castro edge 10w30 high mileage full syn oil. I was going to get rid of it but I can’t remember when I bought it. I finally found what I think is the date code but can’t figure it out. It’s on the back just below the label. It’s black on black. The series is Y21195 1638 j2. If I read this right, y=year, 21=2021 & 195 is the Julian date. (Day of the year). Am I correct?

Also if you're getting rid of it, why does the date code matter?

I would only find an oil unacceptable if it was older than the SN designation but would still run it in my lawnmower. API SN came out in 2010. Raul says hi.
That was the problem. At first I couldn’t find the code. When I did, it was an open container. When I moved here I bought a bunch in 2008. By checking this web page, it told me where to look. I have 4 trimmers, 2 tillers and 2 riding mowers to clean up. And before I’m asked, nope, I don’t have a business I have acquired them from deaths in the family or purchases
