Ironiclly, when i bought my '97 Cherokee the previous owner HAD removed the cat and installed a test pipe.
I did the "environmentally correct" thing and replaced the proper cat.
(yes i DO feel stupid now.....)
Maybe i should see if that test pipe is still laying around somewheres?

just did 2 engine disables. one on a 91ish ranger that lasted about 4 minutes, another on a 86 ranger with a 2.9l that lasted about 6 minutes. got them on video, including the radiator exploding on the ranger.

Just when I thought I've read/heard it all I realize how wrong I am.

But, cutting the cat off to pollute more, purely out of spite over C4C, that's a topper.

Kinda like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Unfortunately I live in an emissions state, but if I still lived in Oklahoma it would already be off. What do I care? The environment is going to be just fine either way, the economy will burn out long before we have a chance to finish it off.

SAD.... Even IF the vehicles were junk, taking them to a junk yard is the proper thing to do.

Destroying them on purpose is just WRONG.....

Fortunately for the rest of us you live in an emissions state.

Out of curiosity, do you invest any of your money?

i agree wholehartedly with you bill.

I cannot believe vehicles are being destroyed for this.

the environmental cost of MAKING A NEW VEHICLE (including mining the metals, making the plastic from oil, shipping everything, etc etc ) must SURELY be greater than the margin in fuel savings?

un believable.

Stupidly, I do, quite a substantial amount. But now that you mention it, I really should cash some of it out and drive to Vegas. It's not going to make a lick of difference how much I save the way these clowns are operating.

You'd be surprised how fast these high end cars depreciate, no matter how good they look. My 95 Mercedes E320 cabriolet, which originally cost $75K, is now worth $10K... not far from the $4500 bogey. And this is a pampered car.

They depreciate horribly because these cars are incredibly complicated, loaded with electronics that are incredibly unreliable, and are incredibly expensive to diagnose and repair. The owners cut their losses by selling them cheap. Buyers don't want to inherit the problems (present and future).

Another SAD but TRUE statement.

The $$ is going to worth nothing WELL before I retire (and that is not too far off)

Just get a "MIL eliminator" and punch out the cats, leaving a hollow shell. Works well if they do an OBD-II fault code inspection.

Just curious who "the devil" is of which you repeatedly speak? Perhaps you could be very specific. I'm unsure of who "the devil" is?

60 senators voted to extend C4C. Are they "the devil"? Just wondering?
