This "program" and especially the videos make me sick to my stomach. You could literly hear that Volvo engine crying out for help. BTW what year and model is/was that Volvo? It had the headlight wipers, so it was not a lower end model. Even the wheels looked nice. Here in WV you would be riding in style if you had that car, seriously!!!

figured it was, but we couldn't buy from them as they are not an approved supplier or something like that.
 
I find it ironic that the most popular new car is the Ford Focus, but it makes sense when you see that 7 or 8 out of the top ten "clunkers" were Fords. I'm sure Ford isn't proud to dominate that list.

The only reason they're at the top of the list (Ford's Explorer) is due to the popularity in the 90's. They outsold all other SUV's (and some cars). My family had 5 over a 10 year period. I hope the Ford Focus has the same effect over the next 10 year period.

I own 2.

A 1990 Ford Bronco2 with 25k on a rebuilt 2.9 v6, and a 1997 Jeep Cherokee with only 117,000 miles.

After seeing what happens to these perfectly good vehicles, NEITHER will ever see a dealers lot.

I may buy a new car, but both these vehicles will continue to see daily usage for many many years to come.

How's that sound y'all eco-nazis reading this?

You are an evil, evil person. Don't you care that the Polar Bears are sweating? You need to take those gaz guzzling, no good SUVs out back and put them down. You can ride your big-wheel around the New Mexico desert.
 
My 91 Marquis qualifies, but I'm not giving it up. I have no interest in shelling out $15-20K for a tiny new car that costs more to insure, is mechanically more complicated, and will cost more to repair, so I can save $300 a year in gas.

(of course, they don't have have to worry about what we are thinking about. Why? Because they are superior to us "common folk")

What you are doing makes the MOST sense EVERY WAY you can look for it. But for the carbon sheeple (who drive to the protests and make their speeches in SUV s and Private Jets) any thing that YOU do that uses GAS is BAD! (never mind them, they HAVE to use fuel because their calling is more important)

My car almost qualified.

I am getting a newer car when I have the wherewithal to. It may even be a brand-new car, especially if that car happens to be a Volkswagen diesel.

If the finances of maintaining an older 20 mpg car are better than the finances of a newer (finicky and high-maintenance diesel) 37 mpg car, I'll stay put. AFter that, however, the old car is being sold to get a high-MPG car/wagon that better fits my current and future needs. And a projected $800/year savings in fuel is a tiny bit compelling.
 
I find it funny, because when I first heard about this program I was telling my brother and father to trade our 1994 Jeep Wrangler in with 200k on it.

Now I regret even mentioning(it wasn't traded in and still have it but its still being decided). That Jeep has been in the family since new in 94 when my parents bought it for my brother and it was passed to me and back to my brother. It's now our emergency vehicle in case we need to have work done on our current DD's. The memories I had in that Jeep are what make it hard to give up, especially seeing what they are going to do to it.
 
It's slightly easier for me as I'm not particularly attached to my current car. It's a car that I maintain well to keep me from losing time or opportunity elsewhere.

Probably better I'm driving a car that wasn't my first choice, as Murphy has not been my friend when it comes to keeping cars I do want.
 
Funny, Bill. Unfortunately, some people are narrow minded enough to actually believe what you sarcastically said.

Churning the wheels of manufacturing faster so people can save a few gallons of gasoline is not an efficient way for the US to use energy or resources, nor better for the environment.
