Cars might be making a comeback in an SUV-Dominated Market

We get so many customers coming into parts lamenting that they can't get a car from Ford anymore.

I believe it. We just came off of having the Fiesta ST, the Focus RS, and the Fusion was great. I know a few guys that have Fusions and absolutely love them and they're all gone from the new dealer lots now.

Fusion was a shining star for Ford. I knew a couple of people that had the (somewhat rare) hybrid and got fantastic mpg!

With one relatively entertaining CUV in the garage I was not about to buy another to replace the 2er (well, an X3M Competition might have turned my head). I absolutely love my C43, but I wish that the estate had been offered in the US.

It isn’t quite a comeback yet, but things may actually be looking up for car sales. A new report from Automotive News shows that cars have held — and even won back — some market share in the U.S. that has been held by bigger vehicles. Before we go any further when I say “cars,” I’m talking about sedans, coupes, convertibles, hatchbacks and sports cars, all of which tend to be cheaper than their SUV counterparts (that’s important).
It's about time.
I never quite understood the SUV trend. SUV's are large on the outside, but small on the inside, get bad gas mileage.
The large ones with 3 rows of seats are cramped and seam to have almost no room left for groceries.

I have a buddy with a seafoam green Fusion Hybrid. I hate the color, but he sure loves the car.

My mom absolutely loves her 2014 Fusion Titanium AWD 2.0EB in Dark Side. She cringes at the thought of having to replace it because she in no way wants an SUV/CUV.

I really like my mom's 17 Fusion Titanium Energi. I didn't like the tan interior and I'm not a fan of the Sync 3/Sony but it has a lot of interior space and was crazy comfortable on the highway. Taurus felt more cramped. Also got 43+mpg on the highway, better than my 3cyl focus. I wish there was a usable trunk to make it a truly great roadtrip cruiser.

The non-hybrid has a very spacious trunk. My mom had a 2000 Grand Marquis before and the Fusion has much more usable space.

Conversely-the last generation Taurus was an embarrassment for Ford........

Indeed. Hybrid + the non-hybrid trunk space would be amazing but....compromises.

I agree in part. Good idea, bad execution. Good power and that thing is huge but the interior is narrow. It was the same with my focus; the fiesta felt more roomy than the focus and the fusion feeling more roomy than the Taurus.

In Europe they call 'station wagons' ...Estates... IIRC...
Years ago I saw an old tea towel that must have been from the UK. It featured "funny" Australian terms - "And in Oz, they call Estate Cars "Station Wagons".

There was an article on the origin of the term "station wagon" - allegedly they were developed so the hired help could pick up the visiting guests and their luggage from the railway station.

I suppose in the UK they were more commonly used on rural properties to haul hunting dogs and so on. Perhaps one of our Brit BITOGers can help out here. @barryh?

You sound like the perfect candidate for a V70R!

AWD, 300 HP turbo, electronic adjustable suspension, six speed manual, Brembo four piston calipers all around.

Room for bride, son, and dogs who, I’m certain, will enjoy your flawless heel/toe shifting….

I like the performance, but just can't get over the looks...
I often heard of my Buick - "wow, Volvo finally made a good looking wagon".
That Audi RS6 would be a great choice...but ever since our Alfa Stelvio, those top level brands are a turn off with difficulty of service.
I have to admit, I was also a bit enamored with the performance of a high powered EV. I have the Vette if I want to row my own, and enjoy the rumble.
My bride loves the quiet ride of the EV6, and my son loves the fun on the Interstate entrance ramps :-)

I have done sports cars and a pickup for decades. I bought an suv 2 years ago and love it, guess I finally figured it out
