My bad. Carquest Premium, Microguard Select and NAPA Gold are all PGI now. Efficiency all really close too.Yeah, that isn’t correct
So if you had a choice would you get the Carquest Premium or MicroGuard select?
I ask for this reason. I'm visiting my son in VA and we just went to dinner. Driving down the road O'Reilly's and Advance Auto Parts are sitting side by side, even had a shared driveway. Which one do you pull into?

Yep, just got a couple STP-extended made by them …If you need oil as well just get the Carquest EP Synthetic which comes out to around $8 once you add it and your oil to your cart online for pick up... if you don't need oil then just flip a coin I guess.
There is zero difference, flip a coin to decideSo if you had a choice would you get the Carquest Premium or MicroGuard select?

I have both sitting on a shelf. Like @McRightclick said, flip a coin.So if you had a choice would you get the Carquest Premium or MicroGuard select?
I don't know about the Microgard Selects, but Carquest Premium comes in two flavors, Made in Vietnam and Made in China. The Made in China has a black (nitrile?) ADBV. You have to open each box to see what's inside. So if you had a choice would you get the Carquest Premium or MicroGuard select?
Avoid the made in ChinaI don't know about the Microgard Selects, but Carquest Premium comes in two flavors, Made in Vietnam and Made in China. The Made in China has a black (nitrile?) ADBV. You have to open each box to see what's inside.
The AAP manager let me open all that were on their shelves on the floor and in back because I only wanted to buy those Made in Vietnam.
Black ADBV or base gasket?I don't know about the Microgard Selects, but Carquest Premium comes in two flavors, Made in Vietnam and Made in China. The Made in China has a black (nitrile?) ADBV. You have to open each box to see what's inside.

I could have remembered backwards. It was several months ago when I bought mine. Regardless, they are physically different when looking at them, even if the black material is silicone.Black ADBV or base gasket?
The China ones I have used always have the red/orange silicone ADBV and same great build quality.
Mine above has the P style. But if I remember correctly some models use a flat gasket. Internally they’re the same. IMO both the Chinese and Vietnam versions are great.I could have remembered backwards. It was several months ago when I bought mine. The Made in Vietnam use a P-style gasket. Are the Made in Chinese the same? Or do they use the flat-style gasket?
Any data behind this?Avoid the made in China
Yeah, the date is scattered across this website 100+ timesAny data behind this?

The made in China filters are garbage.
Some older stock made in China CQP including the 84356 used a nitrile P type sealing gasket. I c&p one recently. That said, no matter coo all CQP use a silicone ADBV. In my experience, nitrile sealing gaskets work fine, but silicone a nice value added feature. At least for my Honda the 84356 Carquest Premiums I purchased recently from AAP had red silicone P-shaped gaskets, and they were made in China.
I have seen a couple of Ecogards with torn pleats and maybe a few PGI's with excess glue but those are few and far between when compared to the running average of crap Mann + Hummel USA put out. Even the PGI's with excess glue were a non issue as the glue they use cures pretty hard to not really be shedding into the oil flow stream unlike the M+H filters with their black glue that easily peels off.Where?
I mostly hang in the oil filter section and haven’t seen one bad made in China PG filter c&p.
Thus my conclusion is that your China coo CQP are newer than the two 2023 date code 84356 I purchased at AAP. It's been pretty well accepted the red sealing gaskets are silicone. As noted though, latter not huge factor 'for me'."Some older stock made in China CQP including the 84356 used a nitrile P type sealing gasket."
My made in China ones have red P type gaskets, and they sure feel like silicone to me.
