I just very gently wiped and dabbed the plate with a paper towel to soak up the oil. See the pictures below. The VPBR deposit is completely gone and the Red Line deposit is still very present. You can see it's thickness and the scratches in it caused by wiping with the paper towel.
Lessons learned:
1. Hard deposits are hard to dissolve. Some of us already knew this but this reconfirmed it.
2. Varnasolv is an impressive varnish dissolver but even it struggles with hard varnish. It can dissolve soft varnish with ease. Five days at room temperature is not long and not hot. More time and heat as well as flow would allow it to do even better.
3. VPBR was less volatile than Red Line 5W-30 in the test procedure I used. It produced a thick and soft varnish while Red Line formed a thin and semi-hard varnish.
