I have a gasoline additive that claims that it will clean the carburetor and fuel system while I run the engine. It is seems to be a volatile solvent of some sort. Will this product cut the oil in the stroke mixture and thus expose my engine to wear?

I don't see how it would cut the mixture, but it would dilute it some based on how much gas/oil you have in your tank. So, if you want to add the stuff and you're concerned about dilution, just add additional oil to bring the mix back to the proper ratio.

As for cleaning the carb in your outboard...I dunno. Do you have a carb related engine problem now? If you do, the only way to truely fix it is to purchase a carb rebuild kit. Then take the carb apart and clean every little passageway with carb cleaner. After that run compressed air through them and make sure they're all open! Carefully reassemble the carb. Fixes lots of problems, especially in engines that have been stored for extended periods.

I agree with the Seafoam. Seems to work great and I use it to decarbon as well. Sovents in the gas/oil mix in two strokes in my opinion are a no no. Wouldn't think you would want anything diluting or washing what little oil protection you get from the mixture you are running. If the carbs really need cleaning badly the best thing is to remove them and clean them properly.

If your product does not specifically say it is OK for 2-stroke, use at own risk. Two strokes do all sorts of different things with piston coatings and such. It is a potentially very different animal than a 4 stroke.

Carb cleaner can and will destroy a 2-stroke. I know, I destroyed an engine of my own.
