Car wreck, lowball offer.

There's no reason for OP to get his insurance involved, the other insurance company already accepted liability.
Yeah, but when their company says they will ONLY pay for aftermarket parts...what are going to do? When I went through it, that's what I was told. My rear bumper needed to be replaced...they would only pay for a reproduction bumper. I demanded original GM brand. Went around and around and around with them on it. I told them their client didn't hit a reproduction bumper...they hit a GM bumper and that's what was going back on it. They still bucked me...at first.

They also would only pay a maximum of 3 days for a rental vehicle. My truck was in the shop for 5.

Later on, my insurance guy said if I would have filed it under MY insurance, I would have gotten everything handled with zero hassle. Looking back, I should have went that route. In the future, I absolutely will. In GA, filing a claim with your own insurance when it's the other party's fault doesn't affect your rates or insurance score.

You going to trade the car once it’s fixed? I can’t imagine the mental anguish knowing it’s no longer factory perfect.
Cars usually aren't perfect when they leave the factory. Living in the city, there's always various dents and scrapes, you'd be hard pressed to find a car that hasn't been in an accident.

What’s a lowball offer? They’re paying you cash for the damage instead of paying for the repairs and a rental?

Sue the guilty party and the insurance company. That’s what I did. My wife was backed into while parked, in a store, I refused to use a referral shop, wanted to use my trusted shop. The at fault insurance company would t pay the established rates. I sued. They came around.

Well you could always keep the check and not get it fixed so that's why they lowball. Because it's new, more than likely OP will get it fixed. I did get hit once and pocketed the difference when I found an indy body shop guy to do it for much less. Basically body shop guy did work on the side. At the time it never occurred to me to even hold out for more as I don't think it was a lowball at the time.

Your insurance company is like your lawyer; they are there to represent and advise you.
Like others have said, you get to pick your body shop, as long as the price is within reason.
Their insurance is trying to close the deal hoping you will take the check.

If your insurance company does not help you, you need a better insurance company.
Good luck.

We are thinking about it lol. That will depend on what kind of deal we could get. The wife is not happy at all about this, she loves her pristine (ex-pristine) car.

It won't raise your rate but it will show up on your CLUE report. Insurance companies don't like unlucky people so even if it isn't your fault it can impact your ability to change insurance companies.

I switched homeowner's insurance a few years ago and they asked about car insurance so I figured I'd get a quote. I had a not-at-fault accident that I had filed a claim with the other driver's insurance. The agent stopped right there and said don't even bother. Damage was very similar to yours and came to about $2,500. They botched the repair and I ended up trading the vehicle as a result....avoid collision centers named after baby food.

Gerber?

Is this the Jetta that replaced a prior Jetta you had that was also new with a paint flaw and you were not happy?

I had a VW GTI involved in a hit & run accident. The body shop I went to does lots of German and uses only Glasurit paint and clear coat on VW's. Who knows if the paint brand matters or not. I'd take it to a shop that works on German vehicles, not a shop in Florida that specializes in the geriatric crowd that accepts bad repair jobs on Chevy Malibus.

And for the millionth time: Claim 👏 with 👏 your 👏 own 👏 insurance 👏 not 👏 the 👏 other 👏 person's 👏 insurance.

They will get reimbursed.
Yikes, sorry bud but this is bad advice. Filing any claim on your own insurance will raise your risk of higher premiums, even if your insurance goes after the other person. Any claim you file is stored in lexisnexis and can be used at anytime for further rate hikes.

I was under the same impression but just did some Googling. Looks like it might not be a horrible idea, and possibly even a good idea, to call your insurer. In case the other driver or company tries to pull something on you.

The other insurance already assumed liability, what could happen at this point?
