The aftermarket certainly has made it an easy decision with all their supply chain, non-compete greed, haven't they?In the current state of things in the aftermarket anything is possible. Anything that is critical to the engine performance is OEM from local dealer.
The prices at local auto parts is very close to OEM so just get the good stuff.
Just buy another filter and show them the box.No way to know if those filters were just different suppliers of the same part number and not necessarily a counterfeit.
I can see it now. Dealerships asking for the box the filter came in they claim ruined your engine. Knowing you didn't save it.
Probably more than what's made on a non-fake oil filter. How much money would you make on a fake oil filter????
There’s one thread of a horrible Honda knockoff someone posted here.Probably more than what's made on a non-fake oil filter.
At my first oil change, a Dealer purchased Toyota ( made in Thailand) Denso filter provided inadequate oil pressure from my Yaris. I Put the O.E. factory filter back on and all was well, bought ANOTHER new Toyota Thailand - with the laser hologram anti tamper tape - and that had inadequate oil pressure AGAIN. Put the Old used factory Toyota JAPAN filter back on and no issues.Unless that filter came apart and clogged up oil passages, I'd doubt it would cause a failure.
One should also question the installation and filter condition prior to installation as both are unknowns
Toyota VVTI issues are well known
