Can't seem to send a picture by text

Are you on Android or Apple ? If Android, what text app are you using ?
Android, Google Fi. I guess it's Google's app, whatever comes with Google Pixel phones. I've been with Fi since its inception.

That app is a hybrid of a standard SMS/MMS protocol messaging app with extra features or protocols that mimic iMessage or WhatsApp or Telegram, i.e. proprietary messaging systems.

Turned off wifi. Now the phone wouldn't even get online and there was no LTE icon either. Restarted the phone and then I was able to send a picture and LTE icon appeared. This isn't the first time this has happened where no LTE and I didn't notice until maybe days latter when I try to get online away from home and then can't. Have to restart the phone but how are you supposed remember that. Is this a problem with Red Pocket? and do I have to switch off wifi whenever I go out?
AT&T is shutting off 3g LTE you may have a 4g capable phone using 3G net. I was recently FORCED to get a new phone due to the carrier AT&T disco'ing 3G LTE.
Got a base Samsung A02s online at the Cricket page. My first android device :(
It works O.K. I suppose; it is too long, made of slippery plastic, sports a crummy dac/ amp and bad camera software - all compared to my ancient Nokia Lumia 640. But it works as a phone and browser. Cost about 35 bucks - one time - to "upgrade". I am on a pay-as-you-go plan for $35/mo. I think data allowance is 6Gb / mo. I typically use/waste about 2.5 and most of this is trash advert software running over the wooduku puzzle game I like to play now and then :)

I have an A02s it is much easier to hold with one of these: https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-Protective-Grip-Phone-Case-for-Samsung-Galaxy-A02s-Gray/459253433 I bought it in a store but now the website says not available in stores. Of course any similar cheap rubber case made for this model would work.

AT&T said they would start turning off 3G on 2/22 but it is still on in my area.

AT&T own brand prepaid has a $30 plan with 5 GB data. All of the big 3 have been reducing their own-brand prepaid prices-- MVNOs don't look so great any more.

I don't think that getting a newer phone with a newer version of Android (as others have recommended) will solve this problem. My wife's newer Moto with Android 10 does this same thing. Once it is connected to WiFi it does not use 4g or 4g LTE, even though the LTE indicator is showing as connected, and she can't send or receive MMS messages even after WiFi is turned off in the phone until the phone is rebooted. I think that this is an Android problem, not a phone or network carrier problem, IOS users don't seem to have this problem. I don't know if this problem has been solved in newer Android versions.
The obvious solution to this problem would be for Google to fix the MMS over WiFi incompatibility issue on a basic level.

Thanks. mk, I actually have that - as I original balked at the cost of 30 dollar cases given that's what the PHONE cost. Its off the phone after a week.
Issue I have is now the phone is bulky with the case on, and the side button cover are too stiff to operate. My old Nokia body was like a smooth ABS and had good grip in the hand - these new phones or "phablets" are too large. I guess gaming is to blame.

I was confused as my phone was a Lumia 640 LTE so I dont know why it was decommissioned by Cricket wireless.
LTE with 3G fallback?
It might be that the LTE to 3g fallback thing may be connected to Android, and more specifically, which Android version is on your phone. It also may have something to do with the phone's ability to use VoLTE and/or HD Voice. I have an older Moto E with Nougat that is an LTE phone, but does not have VoLTE or HD Voice, and I was refused service on this phone.

My Nokia was running a version of windows 8 mobile. regardless, I like the phone and software, but it was unsupported, so it was time to change.
Loved the windows phone experience being a first - for me - smartphone.
I was a diehard pay as you go 2g flip or "mini" phone guy up to that point. - Ken

i have a Moto e 2020 on Air Voice + pay as you go $10 for 100 min for 90 days, data is only charged IF used .0666 per MB. phone works well for me talking + texting. switched from my att go-phone plan as there was NO DATA function on the cheep go-phone plan of $8.23 a month gor 20 min talk that rolled over as does AirVoice if money is added before expiration + you can check on your computer account . when i went to 4G LTE as needed so still learning + have yet to do a pic with MMS a big reason i switched. AirVoice walked me thru the APN setup over the phone + for a very light user its GREAT. other plans offered as well.
