I have the factory battery in my 01 TJ with almost 100,000 miles on it.I've kept it clean and filled and it works fine but am going to replace it soon with another new one just due to age.The original in my 99 Cherokee just suddenly died last year, thankfully it was in my driveway after a heat wave in Toronto,so I'm leary of the same thing happening to my TJ.Anywho the Cherokee was replaced with a Canadian Tire Eliminator. These batteries are made by Exide and I know most people on this forum don't like Exide batteries but between my father and my hunting partner(both own Eliminators)this brand seems to be holding up very well.My hunting partner is VERY hard with the Exide in his Jeep(had a hard starting issue and that battery was getting a $hit kicking for about 2 hours, winches, trailors,CB radio with power off, etc.)and after 3 years he's putting this Eliminator in a newer Jeep due to a recent accident ,where his wife was rear-ended but she's fine, but totalled the older Jeep with 389,000km on the odm!Everybody here likes Interstate batteries but why are their warranty periods so short? The Canadian Tire warranty is fantastic(and I read the fine print)3 years replacement and 10 years pro-rated!We keep our Jeeps till the tires fall off then put bigger tires back on

I'm looking at the new spiral grid type Eliminator battery at Canadian Tire does anyone have a comment on these?

From what i've heard just buy the cheapest battery, the higher price you're paying is for the warranty. That being said the one you're looking at seems very good. If your dad and friend have had success with it I think that's reason enough.

I've had luck with the napa gold. 6 years and about 70,000 miles in my car and it still reads full.

Unless Canada Tube batteries have changed in recent years, they used to be garbage. I tried a few in autos and boats. They never lasted and the warranty never used to be that great. Same with their battery chargers. Just had an expensive one fail shortly after the 2 year guarantee was over. Don't get me wrong, I love CT, but some of their stuff is garbage.

I had much better success with Walmart batteries. In fact, if I needed a battery tomorrow it would be Walmart's. I'm not a Walmart fan either.

Wal-Mart sells the Optima brand of spiral core design.I've heard good and bad of Optima ,that is made by Johnson Controls,on Jeepsunlimited web forum.I'll find the specs and warranty on this battery (Eliminator) and post it later.

It's been 7.5 years since I bought a Canadian Tire battery. That one lasted 1.5 years, and the previous one lasted about 9 months. Perhaps they have improved.

There's not such thing as too big a battery.

Most vehicles can fit a larger battery than stock, and more CCRs/amp rating. Get the biggest baddest one you can.

My previous battery, a Canadian Tire Motomaster 72 (6 year limited warranty) lasted 8.5 years (replaced it in the fall of 2006, was installed spring 1998). I ran the battery until it died completely. The previous 2 batteries -- original, and a VW branded replacement (somewhat pricey) lasted about 5 years each before they went completely dead. The MM 72 is easily the best battery I have used and it lasted significantly longer compared to the previous 2 VW batteries installed in my vehicle (1987 Jetta 1.8 gas bought new).

My experience with Canadian Tire batteries has been very good so far.

I've had good luck with the Energizer car batteries from Walmart up here and they are usually about $20 to $30 less than the CT batteries too.

Last time I needed to replace a battery (battery was about 6 years old and was bulging out on the sides) I got one from the Sears Auto Centre.

Now that Sears Auto Centres don't exist here in Canada, I'm not sure who I would get them from. Likely a brand name from Wal-mart, or maybe even the Kirkland brand from Costco.

I had a Canadain Tire battery in my wife's car, lasted about 5 years. I replaced it with one from Walmart (try something new). Had a few friends recently stated they had problems with Canadian Tire replacing their batteries when the batteries were supposly still under warranty (don't know all the facts).

I've been using a motomaster 72 for a couple years now. Performs perfectly in subzero temps, haven't even had to top up the water yet. So I wouldn't call it #@$%!. I also wouldnt call it "great" until I see it hold up for a few more years.

BTW anyone know who makes Toyota's dealership batteries? I had the original one in this car before the motomaster. It still worked, BTW, but the terminals had corroded so badly I could no longer tighten the cables on them properly.
