Can you Tell The Quality of the Shop By It's Appearance

Appearance of the shop and quality seem to have very little to do with each other. The machine shop that built my Buick 350 looked like a bomb went off inside but the machinist was beyond a perfectionist when it came to how he machined and assembled engines.

On the contrary there is an indy mechanic shop down the road from me with a very nice building, parking lot, customer waiting area, and neat, clean bays, and I've seen some absolute hack work come out there.

I actually think no to the question, because like much in life, one can't always get what one wants.

How many people live in their dream house? I think it's the same for a business. Very few folks in business are like my employer, who built their own mid rise HQ in 2019. So now, everything is state of the art, for 2019, that is. Many shops don't even own their building. So they have to work around that.

Just of the top of my head, I like that dude Car Ninja's shop. But he's doing a YouTube channel so of course they're going to make it look the best it can.

No different than a restaurant, just because there are some roaches, rodents, and the staff doesn't wash their hands, doesn't make it a bad restaurant (that was a joke)

IIRC, Car Ninja came from a BMW dealership background and their service departments are usually pretty spotless and organized. Seems to be a European thing.

You need a need quarter panel on your A8? Wait a month if you are lucky but the work will be top notch as these ALU parts are only sold to certified shops and repaired by a guy named Fernando who used to assemble Ferraris in Maranello.
Are you sure about that?

Hell no! Listen I got to a shop run by a 90 year old man, he rebuilds alternators and starters.
His shop is dark dingy dirty and everything in thee shop is older than me. He has machines from the 50s and 60's and some form the 40's.
There are maybe 20 guys in the US AND Canada combined with his skill and knowledge. He forgot more abut Alternators and Starers than I will ever be able to learn in my life.
Like seriously the shop is a dungeon a dirty place.
