I called Lubegard's tech services and spoke with "Pat." According to him, the dynamic friction properties of the Esso LT-71141 product are identical to a Dexron-IIIH/Mercon fluid, but contained upgraded base oils.

He recommended using any synthetic ATF and adding their red "ATF Protectant" or Platinum "Universal ATF protectant/converter" to the fluid.

So according to that information, any synthetic Dexron-III would work, so I don't see why Amsoil won't work. There's someone using it in place of the Esso LT71141 fluid in an E39 over on roadfly.

It is my understanding tha the *ZF* ATF fluid is very partucular and is very REOMMENDED to from ZF to use their OEM fluid with their trannies - Esso ATF LT 71141.

Would anyone know if this is sythetic or semi-sythetic fluids ? I did a tranny fluid sway and ordered the LT-71141 via the Audi OEM bottles - G 052 162A1. Their bottles state it is a mineral oil.

How does the Esso fluid compare to let say....the Amsoil ATF that is now listed as compatiable with the trannys that call for the LT 71141 fluid .

Interesting Read.....

Prior to me changing out the atf FLUID - I searched and googled, etc. It seems like everyone for the most part stuck with the 71141 fluid and bought it from cheaper sources like JIE or AUDI equivalent...

When I did the swap at 30K, the fluid was nasty.
I only got about 1/3 out at most doing the drain plug/fill method. Will plan to do it again shortly.

My BMW uses the "lifetime fill" Shell-LA2634 which is a european fluid and similar to the ESSO LT fluid. Up untill I now Amsoil said their fluid wasn't suitable for this app. I always suspected that it would work though. I've been using Pennz or QS Multi-Vehicle semi-synthetic fluid or Valvoline Maxlife which claim to be a suitable replacement. Now I'll run Amsoil again.

I just bought this fluid at the local VW dealer for our 325iT. It would be typically $15 a liter but the guy at the counter sold it to me for $12 a liter

My mechanic just put Amsoil Univ. ATF in my 2001 BMW 330i ZF(A5S 325Z) that specs Esso 71411 LT. It's fine so far. I guess I'll know for sure in a few years. LOL
