Got a free Wix 57148, a filter intended for Harley motorcycles. But specs-wise it is similar to 51348, which is what my 2010 Escape 2.5L calls for. Thread size, physical size, etc. are comparable. Any reason to not use this filter?

Wix web is very detailed on filter specs so you can determine compatibility, even ID + OD of the sealing gasket!!

They recommend one for your car, but it’s not the one for the motorcycle. They went through a lot of trouble to do that for some reason.

Yes, and many specs are similar. But the 51348 is 20 micron while the 57148 is 5 micron?
20μ and 5μ at what respective efficiency? There needs to be a % efficiency at each micron size to make any sense.

Beta ratio of the 57148 is listed as 2/20=6/20 on the Wix website, same as the 51348.

The nominal is confusing. The beta ratios (2/20=6/20) on both translate to 95% at 20 mics, 50% at 6 mics
WIX has defined their beta ratio differently than industry standards, and maybe they do the same with what they call "Nominal" efficiency. If they show the beta to be 95% @ 20 microns, and show the "Nominal" efficiency to be 21 microns, then it could be "Nominal" to them is what most call "Absolute" (98%).
