I was wondering if it would be ok to drain my transmission and replace the fluid with a Synthetic. I know there will be a lot of atf left in the transmission, so will it be ok to mix the two? I'll be mixing Amsoil Synthetic with Mercon V. Thanks

People do it all the time. It probably won't hurt anything. Heck I do it sometimes.

OTOH, I have a theory, seems like to get the best performance out of any fluid the fill should be 100% that fluid. But this theory has a couple of escape hatches. The mixed fluid might actually be better than all of one type. Now this probably wouldn't apply if the fluid in the unit in the first place was well used and spent. Best to do a flush with all fresh in that case.

If you are replacing with Amsoil synthetic, then you should flush and replace. Why would you replace with a premium product if you were just going to dilute with a USED atf?

But if you are just wanting to replace the fluid and aren't worried about peak performance, it shouldn't hurt anything.
