Dexron III/Mercon and Mercon V??

my step dad just gave me his 93 thunderbird lx. he isnt known for taking care of his cars so i have started changing the fluids. he told me he topped off the transmission fluid with aamco mercon v its a synthetic blend so says the bottle but i wonder is ok with the fluid that came in the transmission im sure its mercon says the manual and he has never had it changed (only owner) now i want to do a filter/fluid change so my questions are:

is it safe to mix dexIII/mercon and mercon v (syn blend)?

can i mix the remaining 2 quarts of aamco mercon v with my 9 ac delco dexIII/mercon fluid? 12 quart capacity

if i can do above safely will adding 1 quart of max life ATF be ok?

All yes's. But it is ideal to have a single product in there at one time.

thanks i figured as much im going to change it again soon im just weary of the old fluid being in any long since it has never been change for 150k+

I just checked.....and it lists your Thunderbird....and a whole lot more vehicles...
All Vehicles that specifed Mercon may now use Mercon V or a fluid that is labeled Mercon / Mercon V.
