Can I extend OCI using Mobil 1 0w40?

and....what does the manuel recommend....for both of those vehicles? and in North Carolina?

Why use an 0w oil in NC?...in vehicles that don't have a high-performance turbo engines. IMO....NUTS.

Not at all, still a oil with a higher than minimum HTHS isn't going to cause a issue, I look at "HTHS minimum" as meaning I want at least a 25% increase over the recommendation... Been my experience in over six decades of life that going with, using, buying, etc the minimum of anything, sooner or later leads to problems...

5W30 is recommended for the Exploder and Cavalier per manufacturer.

I run Mobil 1 0W40 because it is Mobil's flagship oil and it doesn't cost me anymore than other Mobil 1 oils.

I'd run it in my Prius too but it would probably knock the MPG down somewhat and the Prius is all about MPG anyway. Might be a good topic for another thread though.

I'd love to run it in my MB diesel but because it soots up the oil so fast I have to change it every 4k to 5k miles. Plus the the 8qt sump is another deterrent, so it seems to run very happily on Delvac 15W40.

I think i'm gona run it for 10,000miles. I have a stash of 5w30 conventional oils that i've been using regularly. I have Pennzoil conventional, Valvoline conventional, QSG, and some Castrol GTX, all bought on sale for around 2 bucks a litre which I run for 5000miles. The only reason I got this oil was because I got it so cheap considering it was synthetic, and also, from what i've read on bitog this oil shears down to a 30weight real fast and because it's being a 0w should mean it should flow better then a 5w during winter time, so I'm not really worried about the cold flow factor much. By the way I live in southern Ontario, and it does get pretty cold here sometimes during winter. I was just confused about the oci durations and thanks for all the input, I think doing a 10,000miles oci with this oil should be just fine as recommended by most of you guys.

From what I've read about this engine, it's supposedly a bulletproof engine and my driving style is quiet normal, hardly ever go above 3500-4000rpm, mostly stays under 3000rpm. Bought this van last year with around 140000kms. I have already done two pan drops and filter changes for the transmission, I think I've gotten most of the old fluid out that way, probably won't be doing any more of those for another 100000kms, the original fluid did last and performed fine upto 140000kms, so now with new filter and fresh fluid, i'm sure it can do another 100000kms with ease. I used castrol atf+4. ALso, changed the double platinum plugs and wires, used champion double platinums with new ngk wires, these are supposed to last a pretty long time as well. Had to also change the original fuse box as it was rusting out and causing some issues, (pcb board inside was getting corroded and affecting the horn). Hopefully, this van will last a few more years trouble free after all this maintenance.
