I don't think that's the case. Oil is oil and additives are additives. If you're encountering any unfavorable side effects of a TP filter ...you would surely have plenty of company.

That's not to say that your "installation" doesn't have something to do with it ..just that there is no evidence to support that there are any inherent flaws in using TP as a filtering medium ..nor that bypass filtration, in the way you're using it, has a defect in its conceptual design.

Now if your .035 orifice is passing too much oil ..and you're robbing flow from the gallery ..then sure. Capping off the Frantz for one OCI would confirm that you've got some oil flow issue that the Frantz exacerbates to the point of increased wear.

Did you put a new oil pump in during your rebuild ..and what type was it? 4 out of 5 offered in Jeg's and Summit are all high volume ..even though the traditional Chebbie hi-per OEM pump of choice was a high pressure ..essentially a heavier spring to raise the ceiling on peak pressure without ending up with the sump in the valve covers due to the traditional Niagra Falls event we usually see there.

I don't think the Frantz is the problem

, and it can't fix the problem, either

. Toilet paper cleans oil really well. It does not cause an oil flow or pressure problem, but can be blamed for one

. To settle the Frantz change interval, just look at the top of the filter and try a different interval, then notice the difference. You might find some interesting stuff stuck on the end of that roll of toilet paper. You can now become an expert on when to change it, or cheat and email Frank:p, at MotorGuard, a site sponsor and all around good guy. Once that is settled you can look for any real problems. One thing you might want to do is to get an oil pressure reading, seperate from what every you have on the vehicle. If you can find a mechanic that is a mechanic

, and not a parts changer

, he might have an oil pressure gauge. Another way to get some information is to order a fifty buck oil analysis from Terry Dyson

. You can include a long involved message to Terry and he will actuall read it and take it into condsideration when he does your analysis. He actuall thinks about this kind of stuff and is so good at it that people pay him for his answers. How cool is that? Sometimes it's better to come to a answer with facts instead of guessing, and that can make fifty bucks look like a bargin. You could end up with a solution and learn something, too. How often does that happen? Just repeat after me, toilet paper is useful in two places, and one of those is in a Franz or MotorGuard oil filter.

I posted my first UOA on my truck using extended drain on Chevron 10-30 (6,620 miles) on the UOA board HERE.....

I"m getting quite a few suggestions to remove the Frantz and try again. Some suggest that the TP is adding chemicals and/or removing necessary additives from the oil, thus giving me such a crappy TBN. Any thoughts on this please.

Thanks.
Mark
