Vehicle in question is my 2008 Crown Vic, sitting at about 179k miles. Based on the cars symptoms, a member of a Vic forum believes that a lash adjuster may be causing the issue.
Here's what it does:
After sitting for long periods of time, greater than 8hrs; on cold startup it will make a tapping sound for a few seconds. This is followed by a much quieter tapping sound(almost like loud injectors) for a few minutes, then it's quiet. For a while I was thinking chain tensioners but supposedly the later Vics don't experience this issue as much. If anyone has other ideas, I'm open to them.
Assuming it is lash adjuster, would it cause any long-term harm to the motor? It's been going on for some time, off/on for 15K miles. Someone had mentioned trying to clean them via a flush. The end of the last OCI, I added just 10oz MMO for the last 500 miles. It could be better, but still there for sure. Would something like Kreen or a flush help in that case?
