not looking to break the bank, but looking for a scan tool that can do multiple vehicles EPB caliper retracting for servicing the rear brakes. thanks guys

What sort of vehicle are you planning on using it on? That might make a difference and give you the ability to review some vehicle-specific forums for advice.

The Xtool A30 Pro is supposed to, although I honestly have yet to come up against an EPB vehicle to try it. Free LT updates and hovers around ~$250. Wireless. Touch screen and physical buttons. Runs on an Android OS of some kind. I'm not saying it's the best, but I think there's a lot of value there. Still, I wouldn't mind a full screen tablet style, just for the larger display if nothing else - - which would really only be nice for graphing I suppose

Autel is my choice but all makers have a DIY method as well so you don't need the tool if you don't have one.

My mom's 2017 Escape has instructions on how to do it so you can change the pads, but it's never worked for me. The shop has to use a scanner to do it.

Aren't these things normally 2 pin connectors that work off of 12V, and if so wouldn't it be easy enough to apply voltage with the correct polarity to retract the parking brake caliper?

i have done a few. Some like the mazda i did had a brake mode procedure so no scanner required. the hondas i did i rigged a 9 volt battery and alligator clips and unplugged and apllied power to reset them . if it extends just reverse the leads . Volvo i did i took motor off and manually cranked it it them pressed piston in.

look on the tube and see what works. or buy a scanner and do it electronically
