I'm pretty sure water pumps sit dry on shelves at automotive stores.
Or even when you drain and refill your coolant the pump is dry for a bit.

OH **** FR?OMG no automotive water pumps are built, installed and tested 100% underwater they even should be shipped and stored underwater. At the GM Arlington plant they have an underwater assembly line for engines. Water pumps must always be in water if not they explode inside the block and clog all the water jackets with aluminum pump guts. I've seen it happen.
Sounds like he was directly involved in underwater water pump testing, analysis, manufacturing, assembly, and so on so that's literally straight from the horse's mouth ! Trust this !At the GM Arlington plant they have an underwater assembly line for engines.
