Can a STRAIGHT threaded 2" pipe coupler be used with 2" NPT tapered pipe?

I sold electrical goods for years. Electrical conduit coupling threads are all straight. Threads on "rigid" (thickwall) and IMC (intermediate) electrical conduit are all tapered. No problem. Just tighten the coupling as much as possible on the conduit to seal the connection.

Thank you sir. I guessed in my mind it should work, but having never done it, doubt starting creeping in. Pipe is supposed to arrive tomorrow - ordered from HD. Locally pipe alone north of $700.

Non tapered pipe connectors cannot be used with gas. The coupling that the OP was asking about is also known as a thread protector or chase coupling. Mechanically they will connect two pieces of black iron pipe together.

Indeed. I hope both ends thread in deeply. But does not need to be gas or liquid sealed.
