All this talk of light bulbs.....
The OO of my 2007, "Mrs. Ross", was a familiar face at the dealership for maintenance and any minor repair.
"Mom's" name was all over the paperwork and when I referred to it, the receptionist sincerely asked, "Oh, do you know her?"
She was there a lot. I got a good one.
There were tire sales and separate alignment visits, nail-in-tire repairs and 2 occasions logged as "replace rear bulbs". In the 7 yrs./5 mos. I've owned the car, I've replaced a few H11 headlights as I use Wagner "value" lamps from RA, a couple of license plate/front marker lamps (W5W), both "roundy" R5W rear lights and a back-up lamp.
I don't let bulb burnouts bother me, but I am aware of it. I have read that there are "European spec" lamps of higher quality.
However, my Volvo light claim to fame is repairing a melted spot in the RR large taillight caused by someone reading with his foot on the brakes. A scorch was deep on both the rounded contact point on the bulb holder and metal edge contact in the fixture.
I wound rubber bands on the bulb holder to make contact with spotty results. I gave up as it was a pain.
Never liked the "bulb out" message.
I pulled a good holder from a yard bound example to get the job half done.
I removed the fixture, cleaned the carbon, fluxed the divot with paste flux and an iron and solder flowed it in with 3 passes.
Good to go.
I found a bunch of old rubber bands in the body.
I too must do my tailgate cylinders.....and find the break in the nmad (**** spelled backwards) wiper wiring.
I should have bought the yard bound example as it was offered cheap by the gas station owner. Alas, he didn't have the title and the owner was far away in Pennsylvania. I didn't want a DMV surprise nor have room for a parts car.
It just turned 151k, 81.6k mine. I get 22-26mpg short-tripping and 27-29mpg during months which merely INCLUDE my "700 mile" highway runs. If it was used on the highway exclusively, I'd easily break 30.
Good cars....as we know.
