Camaro Build Quality

My $10k saturn from the mid 90s blends metal and non-metal body panels quite well. The paint and adjacent dyed polymers have faded equally if they've faded at all.

Gaps are huge, for thermal expansion, but equal.

I'm guessing another $50 billion..............and they still won't get it!

Ford has their [censored] together.

That's funny you say that but I just read that the Camaro is the second best selling car on the road. I personally don't like the looks of it.

Was it red?

My buddy's SC1 had similar paint colour "issues" to the Camaro, where the plastic and metal were not quite the same shade.

Ahh the American public ,,,,Haven't we been paying attention to the news for the last year or so? why would someone want to give money to a corporation like G.M.. Money is power yet most give their power away with out any thought .

Surprisingly, the interior was tiny. I had to put the seat in it's lowest position to keep my head off the roof. Front seat room is fine but the rear seats are there only for small children, I can't imagine an adult back there.

I loved the aggressive looks with the projector style headlights with an all black car. I liked the seats. Gauges and dash may grow on me over time. The door panels were a little on the cheap side but not enough to stop me from buying it.

Performance was ok, about what you would expect for such a heavy car but I wasn't expecting it to handle worse than my TL. It also has that dead on center feel like most GM cars. Power was ok. Not so much Camaro related, but why do they put traction control and stability control on a sports car? It ruins the whole driving experience. I went to slide it around a corner forgetting it had traction control and it started to slide just a little, I started to lead it a little with the steering and then the electronics took over and it could've caused an overcorrection easy. IMO, the electronics make the car more dangerous for someone who is used to driving a car without.

With all of it's flaws, I still want one. Don't know why.

You took a new car on a test drive and you drove it like you're on the set of the Dukes of Hazard?... sure..

Another internet idiot. Get the chip off your shoulder or go away. Not sure what your point is. I took a performance car out to test the performance. I know it's a hard concept to grasp.

When i test drove a 2008 Shelby GT500 i was taking it easy and the salesman actually told me to make a right at the next corner and their was a street we could "stand on it" so on the green light i pitched it right and did what he told me to. He didn't mention anything about catching second gear and power shifting through the gears but hey that's how i roll when given free reign

there really are "cool" people left on this planet contrary to popular belief around here. Especially when a salesman can make a sale, the last thing they want to do is pizz off a potential sale.

Hey, wasn't British Leyland Gov't owned as well?

No chip here, and yes it's hard for me to grasp. You say someone let you take their new car out to a closed-to-the-public test track where while testing the performance in the car by yourself, you attempted to slide or drift the car around a corner. All fine and good if this is what happened, you must have good friends. I mean you wouldn't try this on a public street with someone else in the car would you?

Drive safely...

It's a GM car, how well built could it possibly be in the first place?

I would buy no used car, unless it was certified used. That means that the car was good quality, and was in good enough shape that it was worth the dealer spending $500 to have the OEM warrantee reset and give it short zero deductable warrantee.

Buddy of mine and myself took out a 1999 Mustang Cobra from a dealership in the GTA many years back. Salesmen drove first, had it doing 140+ on the on-ramp (60Km/h). Took us down to the Industrial Park where some driver swapping took place and she was rowed through the gears. Oh yes, there was rubber.

I'm not sure why it is so difficult to picture a performance car being driven as intended?

I know on test drives everyone in our family rags the [censored] out of the car, even with the salesmen. Or atleast with one similar and then take it easy on the one you really want :) How else do figure out if you want it? The car's performance is something you have to live with every day. My dad was laying rubber and powershifting a Frontier back when we were still looking for a 6-popper (it was a six speed too!) a couple years back. My dad loves the new Camaro, I think it's a bloated whale.

Makes me want to go to my local Ford dealer and test drive the new Mustang. 5.4L with manual trans baby!

In the right hands and in the right place, yes. Drifting, extreme speeds on public roads? Not the right place. Besides possibly killing someone, what's the penalty if you get caught? I know where you are it's pretty stiff, 50 kph over the limit and you get a $10,000 fine + vehicle confiscated, something like that.

Check out this idiots test drive. Yeah, he thought he was a good driver and this was a safe place to check out the performance.

Quality control, fit and finish and Camaro & Firebird are combinations that have never been used in the sentence, why would you expect the new Camaro to be any different? Their was a reason the Mustang always outsold the Camaro even though it never perfomed as well, Ford put a little more effort into building the Mustang then GM did slapping the Camaro/Firebird together. Like others have mentioned this car probably has a history, but I've seen a couple of Camaros up close and the fit and finish is on par with the previous models, deplorable. The tradition continues, I still believe GM had no right to beg for money so they build a muscle car in this economy.

Well if GM thinks the Camaro and Chevy Volt are the answers to their woes look out America...............

I'm with you. When it test drive a car I TEST drive the car. I don't buy it for the cupholder and radio.

The variance in paint color is not an indication of an accident repair, it's something I've seen personally on a friend's brand new 2010 SS that he factory ordered. His car is Inferno Orange and if you look closely over the entire car on a sunny day you can see a slight shift in color from one panel to the next. The problem is that the entire car is not painted in the same place the car is built. Some of the body parts come already painted from other suppliers, and they try hard to get the color consistent, but often times they are off the mark. Most people might not ever notice the difference, but super picky people that are looking for it will. The Camaro is not the only car that suffers from this problem, a lot of vehicles are like this.

Panel color issues is a long one I see it on a lot of makes and models. It is because the panels and plastic fascia front and rear are not painted on the car as a unit but piece mill. Depending on the contract with the supplier some suppliers have to paint the parts and you can guess how well that works out?

I lost my job at GM because I was too outspoken with what was coming if we did not make serious changes. It has all come to pass now though but it really has not. GM needed to go for a full on bankruptcy and get out from under it's legacy cost which is 9/10th related to it's stupid contracts it agreeded to witht he UAW back int he 1970 and 1980's. Since they really have not gotten away from it as the bail out was really a bail out of the UAW as these guys and gals are the rank and file democratic party members main voting stock that and a few minorities. The problem with GM is not gone away and it is not going to be fixed really until it does completly fail totaly. This continued lack of quality control is just more of the same it is business as usual!

With all the high jinks and key stone cops folly going on with GM and Chrysler I will now only buy Ford and Toyota's! Toyota's because I like their products for the most part and Ford because I respect what they are trying to do by not taking the easy way out of their mess!
