I'll still maintain that my Cruze will get better fuel economy than any other non-hybrid compact out there right now. GM did a great job figuring out how to make a fun to drive and affordable fuel-sipper.

Yeah, that was part of the DexCool debacle. Plasticized lower intake gaskets lead to leaks, which are internal and put DexCool into the oil rather than on the garage floor where the owner would notice. Then the DexCool makes a gritty sludge that seizes the cam bearings, and then the lightweight hollow cam (actually a pretty advanced thing for a pedestrian engine like the 3100) snaps in two. Sometimes WAY after the DexCool leak had been fixed.

Its things like *this* that make me say I'm *now* closer than ever to buying GM. Through the 90s and early 2000's, I wouldn't have touched them. They've really turned the ship around.

No matter the brand, most any coolant is death if introduced into the oil and run for any length of time.

IMO the whole Dex thing is crazy, even Ford is using it.

GM bought bad gaskets, either by design or not. But every car I replaced them on never had any more problems and some of them are still in my care even now!!!
