Yeah, that was part of the DexCool debacle. Plasticized lower intake gaskets lead to leaks, which are internal and put DexCool into the oil rather than on the garage floor where the owner would notice. Then the DexCool makes a gritty sludge that seizes the cam bearings, and then the lightweight hollow cam (actually a pretty advanced thing for a pedestrian engine like the 3100) snaps in two. Sometimes WAY after the DexCool leak had been fixed.
Its things like *this* that make me say I'm *now* closer than ever to buying GM. Through the 90s and early 2000's, I wouldn't have touched them. They've really turned the ship around.
