Calling Acetone users

No it wont die. For a few reasons

1. People tend to believe notions that big companies are keeping things from them(usually they are...) and are not telling you simple things that could make your driving better, but hurt them financially.

2. Its the idea of something for nothing. Alot of folks figure,"If I can drive an extra $5.00 of mileage for the cost of 25 cents in acetone, SIGN ME UP!".
3. Something especially all of us at this board can relate to, we all like to view ourselves as mad scientists always out to learn more tricks. Even after I personally read all the reports of no change in mileage, I still tried acetone out myself. It was that little skeptic in me saying "well maybe it just didn't work for them".

Why use any fuel additive then? If that link is correct than they are all mainly snake oil.

IMO, with modern fuel injection systems and motors it is more necessary to have clean free flowing gas systems than ever before. Gas with no cleaner is dirty, even top tier will leave deposits and will degrade over time. A dirty injection system can and will effect milage. Nothing will clean a fuel system more effectively than 100% solvent. Where am I mistaken?

I agree with using cleaners, but those that you know work. I have told the story several times that years ago on a car with throttle body injector I noted really poor idling, and when I took off the air cleaner you could see it spraying and dripping. When I added Techron in a very short time the idle was improved and when you looked at the injector it was spraying a fine mist, and no dripping. Concrete visual evidence. Would acetone do that? I don't know, and don't have an injector these days that I can look at. With what I have seen acetone do to some plastics, I would not risk it. It also might damage some paints.... When you read outrageous improvements in mpg, I have to agree with the comment above about miracles. JMHO

It works for me, I have used it for over 2 years off and on. testing with a scan gauge. In my vehicles its worth about 2mpg.

Last month I started using a 50-50 mix of acetone and toluene. I put 1 gallon each in a new plastic gas can and use it at a rate of 6oz per 10 gallons. It has gone in 4 different vehicles, 01 Ram 5.9, 02 Crown Vic 4.6, 04 Ion 2.2, and 05 Mustang GT. There was no difference so far in millage of all vehicles and no change in performance of the Vic and Ion. The Ram and Mustang do start better and the Ram is running a lot better and smoother. The Ram and Mustang have both been reprogrammed to run on 93 octane fuel.
