Truly a great product, exceeds most engines needs.

6.1 Challenger?

M1 0W-40 is probably the "best" light 40wt oil on the market.

There are some other 0W-40 oils that are very good such as RL and RP and some good 5W-40's such as PU, but overall their isn't a better value than M1 0W-40.

How does it run the lotus?

This and Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40 are the by far the best oils available in North America imo. Slight nod to M1 0W-40 for the cold weather pumpability. Also nice that it's readily available and frequently goes on sale whenever M1 oils are discounted.

How does it run the lotus?

Way too light for my well worn 40 year old Twin-Cam Europa; even M1 15W-50 is too light.
And it's unnecessarily heavy for my "modern" Lotus (Caterham) Super 7 although I know some that use it.

Grambo, I am glad you like M1 0W40. I have found that it is the best oil for both of my Nissans. GC30 would be another but I can't find it in my area. Red Line 0W40 is terrific but it is more than twice the price that I pay for Mobil 1 on sale.

im going to keep running the 0W40 till the end of spring, then im going to run M1 10W40 HM for the ridiculous underhood temps in the summer. its not overheating but in the summer omg it gets hot and oil likes to be consumed.

I was very impressed with M1 0w40 compared to several thicker API 5w40s in my application.

Below 20*F it was a night and day difference. During the warm-up period and when fully warm, too. No more sluggish lag!

EDIT: It is Mobil's top of the line oil for that application.

Find me another oil with its specs and approvals for $6.37 a quart!

It seems to be the best oils I've tried yet in my vintage 440s with high-volume oil pumps that generate far too much cold oil pressure for my liking on other 40-wts, even RT6 5w40.

Have a look at M1 Q&A:
Shears to 30 wt really quickly,
Oil consumption in number of applications,
High Fe in UOAs,
Make engines run louder,
Tappet wear in specific applications,
But everyone says it’s the best oil for $6.95 and Walmart sells it!

Shears to a thick 30wt as many 40wt's do. And, many 30wt's shear to a 20 weight.

Oil consumption is an engine condition.

High FE particles in the oil? would you rather have low-FE in the oil and iron scraps in the filter that a UOA can't see?

My engines always became quieter with 0w40.

Tappet wear? Haven't seen it.

There are oils out there that do not shear below original grade that easily, engines filled with them do not consume THAT MUCH oil, run quieter, provide fine OUA’s, etc, etc. It’s all fit for purpose.
I don’t believe that one oil does it all and does it all the best way. None of manuf. Oil specs are THAT stringent. BMW, MB, VW have long lists of approved oils. Long lists. There are better oils out there for specific applications. Your oil may not suit my needs and vice versa.
On other hand read the M1 Q&A and ask yourself a question whether Exxon REALLY answered people’s concerns. In my view it actually failed. M1 covers too large a territory so to speak to be truly “the best” for all.
That’s my opinion, not yours, YMMV.
