Caffeine withdraw........

I guess that withdrawl is real for most, however.

I think it's variable ..even with someone who can suffer from withdrawal.

I'm a 2X12 cup pot a day coffee drinker. My cup size takes 3.5 servings to empty the pot.

I've had my habit interrupted without issue. I have also had great tasting decaf that gave me the closest thing I've had to a migraine headache since I last had a vascular headache.

Sleeping issues, some folks - self included, break caffeine down very slowly.

I drink about three cups before noon....then one or two cups at work (I work from 2:30 to 11:00pm and never drink coffee past 6-7:30pm), and by the time I get home at midnight, I have no problems sleeping. But I know that if I didn't cut off all caffeine by 7:00pm I would never get to sleep. I have a fairly physical job too so I'm sure that helps burn it off.

If you drank coffee full time from morning to bedtime you should have no issue with sleeping. It would only be an issue if you didn't have coffee until too late in the evening.

I used to drink coffee from 11pm through 9:30 am ...to bed by 10:30 am. When I was on the (what was called) rotating shift (2 2nd and 3 3rd shifts) if I didn't start drinking coffee shortly after 4 pm ..and didn't get the first cup until 7pm ..there was no way to get to sleep before 3:30 am.

In my case all that's required is a continuous caffeine level. Once interrupted, then the troubles start if that last cup is too late in the day (night - whatever).

usual 3 cup drinker... can do cold turkey but if I have that 1st cup I need the other two...

Tea messes with my gut. If I ever want to lose weight I should drink tea all day.

Just do caffeine for the mental acuity, the sharpness felt when I was a young know it all. Can drink a thermos full and take a nap....

I like coffee, helps me unwind after a day of work. I've gone without it for months even years, but I always had caffine(Tea). I dropped Soda, blech nasty.

I only drink soda (diet) when I'm out. Even at this advanced evolution of adult diabetes, Diet Coke appears to be the only offering at most vending points. Clear diet drinks are mostly non-existent. They're almost always caffeinated. At home I drink some mix that is probably the floor sweepings or bag house/dust collector waste from a Crystal Lite plant. No caffeine.

After a week, the headaches should go away.
Focus on the fact that this is from increased blood flow, a good thing.

As I type, I am enjoying a cup of coffee.
Regular leaded coffee.

My wife puts away two to five 12-cup pots of coffee DAILY. Then again she works 16 hours a day on the computer. Well, hardly working, most of her day is spent returning emails and phone calls and playing Farmville on Facebook.

I drink coffee when I have to drive before 8am. Other than that, it's Dr Pepper for me and I go through anywhere from one to five cans a day. I also drink tons of Kool-Aid and intake enough sugar that I should have had diabetes ten years ago. But I don't. So I'm not stopping now.

I also smoke a pack a day.

But I don't drink much alcohol at all. When I do drink I go catatonic and stare at walls. I mumble the steps needed to perform head gasket repairs. I can't walk, can't respond to external stimuli, there's no point in me drinking. Friend once said, "live it up a little, have some jell-O shots!". That friend now buys my Dr Pepper when we go play pool and I get a free game and free soda because I am ALWAYS DD.

I drink a quart of black coffee a day, less on the weekends. I think I prefer it old and cold. The newer makers all have an auto shut off. An ounce of lemon juice in a qt of water is my hydrater of choice. If I am feeling decadent, I will add a few tbs of sugar. The nurses tell me I have good blood pressure.

I drink a quart of black coffee evry workday. If I dont have coffee, I will get a splitting headache. Caffein, the original "Gateway drug". I buy store brand lemonade and lime adeand add 3/4 qt. more water.

OK, I can speak to this. I had been a coffee drinker for 30 years and quit completely in October and when I mean quit that means no sodas, tea or chocolate, either. What won't work is cold turkey. The headaches and irritability will draw you back to caffeine. What will work is a pill splitter and a bottle of caffeine pills. It took me about 3 months. I took two pills at first (the recommended dosage) for about 2 weeks, then one pill a day for a month, then split the one pill in half, then quarters...can't really get smaller than quarters because the pill virtually turns to dust. It worked and I am shocked that I pulled it off -- never thought it was possible (for me)-- and that I have zero desire for a cup. Lastly, and probably most important, is that you have to "want to want to" quit, a phrase I gathered from another forum about quitting smoking.

..and I suspect you have zero tolerance for even the smallest amount of caffeine in any form. That is, one undetected infusion and you're probably disturbed by it.

That's me. Pretty much zero tolerance. Caffeine is just more of an encumbrance, another voice in the head - so to speak - than a positive stimulant. I'm coming up on day 6 with no known intake. Even on day four I had the ragged remnant of the headache and some other odd effects, I think when I make the weekend, I'll be clear.

You guys are right, cold turkey maybe wasn't the best choice, but I'm getting there!

OUCH!

I've tried to reduce my caffeine intake to no avail. The caffeine withdrawal headache cannot be properly expressed in words here on BITOG without risking a permanent vacation from the board.

I wish you complete success, Pablo.

Yep....stopped drinking coffee three times in my life. Had to prove to myself that I could do it. Each time I had headaches so bad that I thought something was trying to pull my brain out of head with a large cork screw. Worst headaches known to man. Soon after that I finally understood and sympathized with folks that suffer from migrains.
Decided that as long as I moderated my coffee intake, it caused me no health concerns.....plus I really enjoy the stuff. Went back to drinking it each time and now don't even think about stopping.

I have read in various health magazines that cofffe is not the bad guy anymore.
And that coffee [when fresh] has 4 times the anti oxidants of regular tea!

I was once a Dunkin Donut franchise owner, and I estimate I sold over 8 million cups of coffee in 20+ years. I had a cup in 1973, gave me a stomach ache, and never had another.

I was a tea, pepsi, Mt. Dew addict though.
