I agree, it would be splitting hairs comparing wear of a good 5w-20 to a 5w30. I should probably clairify in my posts that I'm usually talking about a straight 30wt or a robust 10w30 in most of my anti- 20wt posts.

Why the US gets dumbed down owner's manuals and oil weight on the filler cap (hint, it's the ZOG ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT :^). If you want to know what your maker really recommends find a non-US manual if one is available, or at least one using a similar engine, where often one sees a range of recommended weights vs ambient temperature.

According to Amsoil, Yarisworld and ToyotaNation 0w30/5w30..I just can't track down a pic of the actual owners manual page...
