Picked up this filter today at Advanced Auto and was surprised to see it’s not the usual Premium Guard.

Going to run it unless anyone has a compelling argument against it. Have an autozone stp xl in there right now that is a premium guard. Will post the dissection of that filter once I get around to changing the oil on the ELR later this week.

Before Purolator went with a louver center tube. I don't see an ADBV, so it must have been speced to not have one.

Thanks for the reply. Any reason not to run it for 5000 miles?

They sold you at full price.. a 7 year old filter. That just seems ridiculous to me. I would return to the store and ask them first without telling them what you bought.. if they sell 7 year old filters and see what they say.. then ask to give your money back and you can keep the old filter anyway.. OR.. give you the better filter below :

I'll echo what others have said. It's an older filter, if possible I would return for a newer one. However, I doubt you would have any issues with this filter. These filters used to be quality back in 2018. Nonetheless, still seven years old. I believe this engine has a built-in oil bypass in the block, but don't quote me on that.

That’s a fair point. I’ll be on the side of town of The advanced auto that shows to have one in stock later this evening. Will swing by and swap them out. Really wanted to give the carquest filter for my ELR a try this oil change anyway.

Tried exchanging it for a newer filter but the only Advanced with another one in stock had the same old stock filter. No guarantee that if they ordered another one in, it wouldn’t just be the same thing.

Have an autozone STP XL on it right now and I’ll likely go get another one of those. Looks like this and interestingly has a different base plate than what the carquest premium shows:
