CA storms.. We need the rain, but, all at once?

Our storms are all over the news. I was awoke last nigh to a big crash. Here's a few pics from my street.
This is a $3M+ property 4 houses down from me; the tree belongs to the next door neighbor. People don't realize that the ball root only goes down 3' or 4' and the tree keeps on growing. The feeder roots grow outward, not down. A safety trim would have gone a long way. Saturated ground and high winds are a recipe for a perfect storm.

Here's another house, the car was covered earlier but someone cleared it while I was out.

That's the way it normally goes there. Nothing for months and then 10 days of rain and then more months of nothing. Last winter it was the week between Christmas and New Years and then that was it - for the rest of the season. This year it's been weeks of this and appears more intense than usual. It's always possible next week it will end until next rain season. You never know.
The water storage situation is improving and there is a nice snowpack to melt and fill. It's going to be interesting moving forward.

Lot of extreme weather these days. We had an F3 tornado touchdown in Mullica Hill, NJ last year which is unheard of in this area. We get tornado warnings now all the time in the summer now.

Cali is burning….wait! That 3 million dollar house would be a $300,000 house (tops) in my area. I know….location, location….

C’mon Jeff - After, what, hundreds of posts? pointing about how great your weather is, I’m not certain this thread is going generate much empathy…
I just talked to the owners. We are all grateful no one was injured. Their daughter was sleeping in the upstairs corner bedroom. It could have been far, far worse. Their car has a busted window; not sure of the extent of the damage. But the occupants and house are fine.
Given the huge Cypress tree went down, it could not have dropped in a better direction. Count your blessings, as they say.
He just had tree work done; just not enough apparantly.
I cannot remember wind gusts like this. The next door neighbor and a few others checked on them when the tree went down, about 2:40 this morning. I thought it was the neighbor's tree; I was wrong.

For all the readers, I apologize if my thread sounded like I was asking for your empathy. I did not mean to do do so; that was not my intention. If anything, respect Mother Nature's awesome power and get those trees safety trimmed or removed if they pose danger. This tree had no business being that big in that location.

We didn't get our Ford or Mazda freight today for obvious reasons. So far we have had one 2020 Super Duty Tremor towed in because it had water up to the belt moldings and wouldn't start.

But the usual Santa Barbara entitlement is in full effect. People calling angry that the warehouses didn't have Scotty beam their parts to us.

My septic tank leach fields became so saturated they back flowed into the septic tank itself, rendering sinks, showers, and toilets useless. I had our 1,200 gallon tanked at 2PM to the tune of $800 even (it's California, after all).

By 8PM, just 6 hours later, the tank was over capacity once again from the back flow. So, we're getting a hotel room for the next two nights so we can use the toilets for #2s and take showers. For #1 we're simply making trips to a backyard bush, including Sue.

Hopefully my leach fields aren't permanently damaged from this, but I'm not feeling sorry for myself. When it rains people get wet, roofs leak, trees fall over, and septic tanks fill up. Without question I'd rather have this rain than I would another year of drought.

Pics of our neighborhood park that's just down the street from us, taken Monday afternoon Jan 9th.

Scott

Out for a walk in the neighborhood on Jan 8th, before the big storm.
