Hey all, I'm thinking about putting a cheap CB Radio in the F150. However, I'd like to do it without drilling holes in the cab for the antennas. I'm thinking of running a magnetic antenna in the roof so I can easily remove it, but will that still require drilling holes to run the coax to the radio? Thanks!

No drilling needed, just run the coax down the back of the cab and tie it off with zip ties where you can to keep it secure. Run it down between the cab and bed, then once under the truck you can run it forward under the body and up to the firewall. Secure it in place with zip ties as you go, keeping the coax away from any existing electrical wires. There should be an unused rubber grommet in the firewall to poke a hole through for the coax cable, or you can cut a small hole in an existing grommet and pass it through to the inside of the cab that way. However, you still want to try to keep the coax cable run as short as possible.

I use a Tram 269 Triple 5 in. Magnet CB Antenna Mount for my ham radio antenna. I works great. I also run a ground wire from the coax braid to my engine chassis.

Thanks for the responses. 1 More question, the antennas I'm looking at come with 15-17 Ft of cable; will that be enough to mount on my truck and run to the radio (Its a Supercrew if that helps) Thanks again!

I have a stake pocket mount for my antenna. It's basically tqo pieces of sheet metal that sandwiches the bed rail. No hole needed.

Then, I found an unused grommet in the floor, right behind the door. You don't have to go through the firewall.

If you dont have a bedliner you can use the mag base antenna on the inner fender of the bed. I have done that and then it doesnt smack branches or low overhangs if your offroad much. It never hurt reception by being a little lower either.

Mag mounts can and will scratch.

I did a feder mount from Pro Fit,

And ran thro a grommet on the firewall. Inside I used a cig lighter plug, not idea but good enough for my purposes. I used an NMO mount with a Larsen NMO27b iirc. Happy with the results, but it was mostly to keep abreast of traffic conditions, not to chase skip.

I did have to do a bit of bending on my mount, but am otherwise satisfied. A generic L bracket would be more secure but that would require holes.

Note, I have a tonno cover, so the bed rail was out. I'm too chicken to drill holes, and besides I have too many low hanging trees. Fender mount was just right.
