Buy, sell, keep or trade?

So, with everything going on-what is your plan for your current fleet?

I ask because I figure here plan to keep their cars/trucks here than just about any site I know (us crazy people)


But, I am still curious....


Mine-


2003(sedan) & 2004(coupe) Cavaliers- these are both sticking around. There is a very good chance I will run them into the ground. Value wise, they are worth very little anyways...The sedan will be my beater when we get the wife a newer car/small SUV. The coupe is the current 3rd car/ my back to school ride.


2006 Cobalt- Current beater and commuter car. Also wil stick around. If I decide to get a new Cruze/Civic, then the Balt will just be a winter beater. Exactly what I will do with it will depend when I'm done paying for it. (a little over a year left)



What about you guys?

I have an 07 Mustang GT that I plan keeping atleast until the 11 Mustangs come out with the new engines.

Right now

1997 Saturn SL1 5MT
1996 Saturn SL2 5MT

The SL1 has been my daily driver for nearing 2 years. I just got the 96 the other night. If I can get the 96 to where I want for a reasonable dime, I will make it my new DD (it has less mileage and the body is in good shape)

Only issue is the 96 needs weird things. the drivers window does not work (falls off track, and stupid power), the drivers side headlight is out of alignment and the adjuster is far gone, it needs a wheel bearing, and at least the flex pipe underneath. Other than that seems to be in awesome shape and runs well. The 97 needs nothing but is a total base model. No options whatsoever and of course gutless SOHC action. If the 96 can't be safetied on my tight budget it'll go back up for sale as is and I'll keep rocking the SL1.

I've got two,

1995 Dodge Intrepid with 160,000 miles
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 105,000 miles

Both are DD's, My wife drives the Dodge,it's got the 3.5L and it still run's great. I just put on a new timing belt and water pump on, so she should be good for awhile. I drive the Jeep and it's got the 4.0L in it. Have not had to do any but but normal maintenance.

I plan on keeping them till they run into the ground, since I don't own anything on them. I hate car payments !

We can afford nicer cars but would rather have the extra cash in the bank and put towards our retirement/kids college. I paid off the Civic this year, the Accord will be paid off next year and we will keep both cars for at least 250K miles.

Going to keep both going. May purchase either a Fit or Forester this year and I'll drive the Outback more.

Then my Daughter can have the Corolla for the little driving she would be doing.

I'm also looking for a older miles (read under $3k) Truck or SUV to keep going.

I'm NOT looking forward to the newer cars that will have all the government [censored] laws built into them.

Everything has been paid off for a long time and I will only pay cash for whatever we buy.

Done with being in debt for anything but the house. It will be paid off end of this year.

Have no plans to sell our current lineup (see signature). My truck has been one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Have spent around $300 for repairs in 17 years. The Caddy is a keeper. I could take that car apart and put it back together in my sleep. My wife claims she's gonna keep her PT forever. I guess that means I better get a shop manual!

We just sold our 94 Accord at 145k 3 months ago and bought the 4runner. We're planning to keep them until 200k, or maybe more.

No plans to get rid of current car in sig. Wife is talking about wanting to get another car as a second car, but that probably won't happen until we are closer to the end of this one's life - I'd like to see 10 years and 180k out of it before I retire it.

Engine runs like a top on it, no oil leaks or burning. It does need a lot of maintenance repairs, though - wheel bearings, breaks, tires, and the air conditioning is starting to have issues. These will get fixed one by one as funds become available.

The water pump started leaking a few months ago, so we put in a new timing belt and tensioner at that time. As I'm sure you know, when the water pumps go out on these things, it's best to go ahead and do the timing belt etc. Fortunately, the pump was under warranty, so it covered everything except the costs of the extra parts. We better be saving up for the next time though!

Have multiple vehichles in the Fleet. Rotate them in and out of service. Have never had a car loan, buy em cash either slightly used or when good rebates are offered.

Currently drive Shadow painted it and restored it with a few extra goodies a couple years ago, has 252K miles on it.Will have my 86 Shelby Daytona back together this summer with fresh paint and some goodies, wife drives the PT GT Crusier. Jeep and Durango are back up 4WD. Have 2 spare Daytonas for future build up project cars. Hope to add a Challanger RT to the fleet this fall or next year.

Paid off house and no debt is a good thing as Dave Ramsey says.
Wasting money on cars and dumping them every 4 years trading them in is a strategy to put yourself in the poor house.

Screw Obama and his [censored] cars coming to meet stupid fuel economy requirements.

I would suspect anyone who likes cars will be snapping up the V8 preformance stuff and SUV's before the new CAFE kills them off in a couple years. Also it will be interesting to see how people react when the future cars cost thousands more and the complexity will be a killer compared to todays cars. Not worth the extra few miles per gallon and downsizing IMHO.

I have a '06 Santa Fe with over 170K KM (106K Miles) on it - Keeping it, it's well looked after and my daily driver for my job. I will run this into the ground as far as possible.

I have a '95 Neon with almost 200K KM (120K Miles) on it - Keeping it for high gas price summers, and as a spare car if the Santa Fe needs work or if I have to pick up stuff here/there on my dime and not the company I work for.

I have a '92 Austin Mini convertible from Japan - Trying to sell it because I don't have time to drive it anymore and I could use the money for my partners schooling this year.

My partner has a '89 VW Cabriolet which I bought, and we are keeping that as our summer car to boot around town in and to take to the beach. it only has 175K KM (110K Miles) on it. It's a lot of fun to drive and is in excellent shape.

My partner also has a 1996 Ford Escort 1.9 with a pile of miles on it and it's all rusted to heck and falling a part but we are keeping this over the next year to get us through the winter and then we will most likely send it to the scrap yard and buy a new/new-used vehicle.

Wife works days, I work nights & weekends, we meet at home for lunch. Could get away with one vehicle. That doesn't stop us!

00 Saturn SL1 145k... her commuter car
95 Saturn SW1 205k... my rainy day commuter car. Sometimes I take hers b/c the engine is still warm. Re-ringed the motor at 175k and honestly think it can go another 5-7 years before rust starts really eating it.
82 Yamaha Virago XV750, 8500 miles, 54 MPG, sunny day commuter vehicle.

Am trying to figure out if a MC can deliver lower costs per mile once you factor in the expensive tires and other maintenance. (Most that claim they do have a 12 MPG dodge ram as their other vehicle-- Doubt it for me). Fun though.

97 Olds silhouette van, 124k, replaced my beater pickup trucks that were too much $$$ to keep rust free or replace with rust free. Bonus is room for the car seat.

Long term plan is chaotic b/c any two vehicles could die and we'd still not be put out of place. And I have a 96 saturn I'm trying to flip, that's unregistered/uninsured so at least it isn't costing me anything sitting there.

Gotta have 3 cars b/c the wife wanted to hire someone who drives a Mustang GT to drop off and pick up our kids from school... Hopefully she won't try to drive my V like a Mustang GT.

I have a hair or two standing up on the back of my neck about the CR-V. There's a very faint noise that I just have a bad feeling about... One reason I was glad to retire it from daily long distance commuting in favor of a new Fit...

Besides, it's nice to have 3 cars...
