Buy Advice - Trucks with high miles?

Looking at some used trucks on locally, just looking on the web, trying to decide which to go drive.

04 Dodge Ram 214k - looks pretty clean all around. 5K
02 Dodge Ram 195K - Replaced transmission and transfer case, replaced exhaust system, power steering pump and put a new battery. 6k

04 Tundra 200k - Bit beat up but new frame.

Reason looking to have little to no payments. Just talking this out and I appreciate the fatherly advice. I am looking at that 5k and under price range.

Should I be concerned with miles? I don't mind the basic repairs.

I like the 02 has had a lot replaced already. I think it would better serve you for longer

Do you need a truck? If not and your budget is 5k, look for a newer sedan with lower miles.

The vehicles you list sound like money pits.

Unless u are in a hurry..take your time and find a clean one owner. This is a buyers market for vehicles they are plenty and you can make good deals with cash in hand..

What engines are in the Dodges? I would be concerned with the Dodges and miles. Just don't see them with alot of miles without some major work done. The second Dodge sounds like alot of work was put in it, but I think that price is too high. Look for a Ford F150 with the 4.6. I am not super brand loyal. They just really do run forever. I see them being abused all the time and go 200,000 to 300,000 without any major repairs. Another option is smaller trucks, gas is cheap now, everyone wants full size trucks. I am seeing alot of small trucks selling cheap.

Instead of a newer dodge why not something like this?
The dash issue is most likely a broken vacuum hose. 5 minute fix. Any work that needs to be done. Like a heater or spark plugs you can do yourself. It's basically the same as my Ford.

Another bit of advice coming from a Northerner. Look on EBay for a Southern truck. If your a serious buyer, hop on a one way plane down and buy a Florida truck. I was under my 2002 Lincoln today and factory production stickers and paint is still shiny ( underneath). Vehicles stay like new down here. Even if you do have to do some major repair, the rest of the truck will go bodywise for the distance.

Those new frames are good and they replace a lot of rusty stuff too. How beat up is it?

Buy a 97-02 F150 2WD/6cylinder/manual.That should be about $2-3K

Until you actually drive them it's a moot point. There is very little that can be assumed from the ads, and pickups at that mileage can easily still be in good shape or in poor condition no matter what has been replaced.

Until you see them in person and can make an assessment, anything posted here is strictly speculation.

Trucks used are expensive. Those seem like work trucks.

You be making car payments in terms of repairs or your time repairing them. Rust eats all these brands alive in coastal New England.

I dunno on all of them. The Toyota of that vintage, does it have the required payload and/or towing you are after? New frame is attractive, as long as the brake/fuel lines were replaced. If it's a V8 though it's a timing belt motor, so factor that into the purchase; and the fact that Toyota trucks have never been known for their stellar mpg. Not sure about Dodges but I thought they usually had complaints about front ends.

If you're ok with basic repairs then aim for something with the lowest rust. Or fly south and buy something.

i wouldnt touch a dodge of that vintage. take a closer look at the toyota. my o3 has been stellar
