But the new ones are such junk that 20 years is beyond the realm of possibility. Maybe 10 if you are lucky. I just treat them as disposable now, so if the repair cost is in excess of 50% of replacement, I just replace. Must throw a shout out to my Bosch dishwasher - now approaching 5 years old - miraculous!3 years would be infuriating to me.

More like $1,100 today. Probably still a good buy.Get a Speed Queen. $700-900 for laundromat durability. You can even opt for the coin mechanism. 5 Year warranty for everything.
It's a completely different hinge design. The new one is similar to "gooseneck" trunk hinges on a sedan. They are not compatible. If the new lid is the updated design, I would just do a DIY replacement.
Short answer, no. Even if I could, the lid wouldn't have any sort of "stop" when in open, resting position.Could you take the spring out of the hinge? That could stop it from splitting again.
From what I've read their newer models rank below Whirlpool in reliability surveys.Get a Speed Queen. $700-900 for laundromat durability. You can even opt for the coin mechanism. 5 Year warranty for everything.
In my opinion, Speed Queen is still in a league of its own as far as traditional built washers are concerned: Solid steel tub and inner tub. Traditional belt driven transmission with all metal gearing. You'll pay more but it is built the old way. Wife bought one in 2016 and I installed myself. The weight of the washer was probably twice that of the one it replaced. Literally built like a tank and manufactured in Ripon Wisconsin. I don't think any other brand comes with a five year warranty, either.Get a Speed Queen. $700-900 for laundromat durability. You can even opt for the coin mechanism. 5 Year warranty for everything.
You can get a Miele with a 10 year warranty. They are designed to last at least 20 years. This only works if a compact washer/dryer works for you though. In my opinion, Speed Queen is still in a league of its own as far as traditional built washers are concerned: Solid steel tub and inner tub. The Speed Queen difference
Get one with an agitator. My LG top loader is 11 yrs old and still working fine, no repairs so far. But when I have to replace it, I will be buying Speed Queen.
I expect Miele would be a great machine. We couldn't deal with the size in our house, though. You can get a Miele with a 10 year warranty. They are designed to last at least 20 years. This only works if a compact washer/dryer works for you though.
That sounds like a night mare. It wants to make me shut off our water while we are away.I'll say those old GE's can last. We had one that I got used after a divorce. Washer and dryer for $150. Wife made me get her new ones when those were still working good. She thought something was wrong because they got out of balance easily. Bought some Admiral (Whirlpool) ones that are working good. At our other home we have GE cause that is all that will fit in the shallow laundry closet. We had a broken ice maker line while we were on a 10 day vacation. Came back to a destroyed home since 4000 gallons of water came out of that line. Refrigerator was directly above the laundry. After getting our house repaired which took 6 months, Washer and dryer both worked as before. Thumbs up on those GE washers.
I have a brand new GE top loader and it's awful.I’m done buying Whirlpool made washing machines. If you were to get the lid fixed, the direct drive system isn’t far from going out.
I would get rid of it and buy a traditional top loader from GE.
