Burgers: grill vs griddle

Never owned a griddle, but I've read some of the griddle threads here on BITOG and elsewhere. I like griddle for making cheese steak subs, but will I regret it for making burgers? A lot of reviews swear by burgers from the grill only.

In terms of how will the burger taste between the two, I think that's all about the quality of the meat and how it's prepped and prepared. I've been down to a Blackstone only for the past 3yrs or so. Prior to that, all I've ever owned and used was propane and charcoal grills. I don't do a ton of grilling, nor do a do real fancy or expensive meats.

Once you get a system down, a blackstone or similar is just so easy to clean up and have ready for the next use. Burgers make such a mess out of a gas grill. Really everything does. With the blacksone, it's a quick scrape, rinse, wipe, re-oil and cover it up. I find my blackstone to be very fuel efficient as well.

Think about your diner style burger which is cooked on a large griddle vs a backyard bbq over a grill (I use lump charcoal). You get a thinner burger vs a smokey burger with char marks. Depends on what you want or style.

Agree 100%, cleanup on a Blackstone takes a minute or two. I also REALLY like how I don’t smell like smoke/grease after cooking with it.

FYI Blackstone and Weber are currently in the process of a corporate merger of the two companies.
I had not heard that. Blackstone headquarters are just a 1/2 hour from my home. I take advantage of that, and shop frequently in their factory store. I hope the merger doesn't change their current headquarters.

The best burgers are made on a griddle.

Use a 80/20 ground beef. They are cooked hot and fast with a great sear. I like to smash them into some onions and then flip and steam with some water under a cover to melt the cheese. Only takes perhaps 3 minutes and they are juicy and delicious.

I've eaten hundreds of burgers cooked both ways. If time is an issue, I'll go to the Blackstone/griddle. Otherwise, I prefer the flavor of a burger cooked over wood/charcoal.

I have a cast iron Weber griddle insert that I use in my Weber 3 burner gas grill. I replace one of my 2 cast iron grates with the griddle and use the griddle side mainly for veggies and the grate side mainly for meat and cook on both sides at the same time. I considered a flat top but cooking 90% of the time for only 2, the Weber griddle insert has worked great for us and it’s only about $50 from Weber, and doesn’t take up any space on my deck. And truth be known, you ‘ fry ‘ a burger on a griddle and grill a burger over charcoal or wood. 🍔
