Brutal heat and humidity lately

It's been hotter than hades here in the middle of iowa lately. I was going to go for a 30+ mile bike ride today but nope'ed out at 20..

Temps in the mid 90's and high humidity combined to push the dew points into the 80s and the "feels like" temps as high as 120⁰!

I've been comparing my location to Bradenton Florida and quite often the dew point and feels like temps are comparable or higher.. Right now we're even uglier than Phoenix

Hopefully the rest of you all aren't melting like we are!

We have been in the typical 90's and hit 100 once in the past two weeks. I am staying mostly inside. Humidity isn't too bad and I have seen worse in this part of Kansas in the past (20 consecutive days over 100 in the 1980's).

Geeze the dew point has continued to climb...

I've been seeing high 70⁰ to low 80⁰ dew points as late as 8:00 lately. Yuck.

Phoenix is sitting at 25% humidity today. Right now in central WI it's 63%, the OP is sitting at 80%. Not really a fair comparison.

OP: this summer has been especially brutal, especially for those like me that work in shops/outside without air conditioning. When the humidity gets this high, your body's ability to cool itself via sweat is greatly diminished and it can be dangerously easy to overheat.

Totally agree, that's why I turned around at 10 miles and I was GLAD to be back at the car when I got there!

As for working in the heat, I'll readily admit that I'm super spoiled.. we have the AC set at 71 in mine! You have my respect and sympathy for having to work in that crap!

Last few days have been unbelievably cool in central Virginia. Mowed the lawn, trimmed up some bushes, and worked on a car today. Usually can only do 1 of those things before it gets unbearably hot this time of year.

Drove through Phoenix yesterday afternoon, vehicle was showing 118 degrees--- assuming the temperature over the blacktopped interstate might run a tad bit higher than the temperature at an official weather station.

In town to visit wife in Phoenix I've been here few times in July why probably because I'm a idiot. Born raised in Wisconsin all my life sure we get hot and humid but no feeling ever what you experience in middle of July in Phoenix and the issue it is relentless. In Wisconsin yea you get a week of heat and say ohh look we have a overnight low of 65F in 2 days never in Phoenix summer.
I'm usually up at 4am yep get your bike rides in walks before 10am most hikes will shut down at 10am usually pulling people out overcome by heat usually some hero from out of town not heat adapted.
I'll take a summer in Wisconsin any time compreed to a summer in Phoenix why live in Phoenix because winters are amazing and that's a thread for another debate.
This is never Wisconsin ever and you can repeat this for another 30days.

Last week's vacation to Wyoming was shocking, temperature-wise. I lived there from 1978 to 1995 and don't remember seeing temperatures top 100. Topping 90 was a feat seldom seen. Weirdly enough, it was 5° hotter in Wyoming than it was in Texas the day I landed, and the next day as well. There's lots of open pasture within Gillette city limits, and they're so dry and "golden brown" that one misplaced cigarette butt may send the town up in blazes quickly. I think everyone's being very careful for fear that they may lose their own home through any measure of carelessness.

I read the world record dewpoint is 90F and was set in Florida, LOL. Anything over 67-68 and I hide inside.

Same here in the DC area. We had that ridiculous 5 day stretch of 100 degree days around the 4th, and then another shorter one a few weeks later, but last week was pretty nice with highs in the mid to low 80s and reasonable humidity. 10-day looks pretty solid too.
