what are your thoughts about the fuel increase as you've gone down from 5W40? Is it caused by the low high temperature viscosity at the ring packs, or do you have an injector leak?

As Tempest said, it's the additives not the viscosity that prevent wear. The additive levels in this are probably way above the oil that you use in your Jeep (or any SM/GF-4 oil).

The fuel content is probably due to a couple of things. The 5w-40 UOA involved fuel treatments. Well, they all have since, but that one I really got annoyed at it screwing with the UOA so I managed nearly 100% compliance with each fuel add. This run was probably 50%.

This engine takes a big hit (at least apparently so) during the warm up cycle. Even though the warm up cycle is short for a cast iron engine (as fast or faster than most aluminum head engines that I've owned), it must dump gobs of fuel in fuel enrichment mode.

I may be changing injectors on this engine. I managed to do it on the 4.0 ..which is older..but is plagued by like issues with fuel.

There's also a question about the fuel being all "fuel". I need to ask Bruce about aromatics and whatnot. Stuff that I don't have much knowledge about.

I subscribe to this school of thought. I have my BIG BRASS due to my particular situation. I simply know I'm not going to grenade anything over a few OCI's. I've also got no fear of bearing wear. I've got a high volume oil pump on my 4.0 and a standard volume oil pump on an engine with 5/7ths the main bearing surfaces (effectively the same deal). That leaves the cam, timing chain, and the rockers to bear the burden with their contact rubbing. I don't have high rate springs ..etc..etc.

Now if I didn't have a timing chain, had a rollerized valve train (or HLA w/cam followers) ..etc..etc ...one would reason that I'd grow even BIGGER BRASS.

You just know that Bruce has about 200 PM's asking for some of this stuff...

Hey, if he has 200 requests and that result in 100 actual sales, then pre-order the stuff at say $8/qt x 6qt minimum x 100 orders = $4,800 , that's probably enough to do a minimum batch of 3 55-gal drums (somebody check my math).

$5K isn't "that much" initial capital to do a batch, but I admit I am unfamiliar with the industry of private blending.

I'd buy some, even if it was $10/qt....it's good to support the little guys and locals, especially if it "works".

All IMHO.

My zinc is about 1400ppm due to adds, so really not to far off. Flow isn't going to hurt anything, plus I have a HV oil pump.

I know this isn't very accurate, but say you double the wear levels to compare to the 20wt almost 5k....only thing that jumps out is CU & SI.

How much was added during this oci? NOACK around 6% thats not bad is it?

Do you mean make up oil?

None. This engine doesn't consume enough oil to mention ..but I'll mention it. It has used up to 1/2 quart in about 7.5k.

Oh n/m I miss read your previous post of why it was such a short run, anyways love what your doing. Please keep us posted on the other 2 samples, and maybe the OCI in the other vehicle. Oh and if you want me to run some in my 4.0, or a 2.5L BMW, I'd be glad to buy some off you!!!! :-D

Gary, aren't you using a high volume oil pump? My 4.0 has very bad hot idle oil pressure with anything less than a 40 weight. A 10 weight would likely seize my 4.0 at hot idle.
