This run was for about 9 months, mostly short trips and idling. I'm not sure how many times I reset the OLM but it was at least 3, the last being the week it was changed. I did try to get it out for a run at least once a month. I don't know what the future holds as my wife's work schedule is unknown. It will see a daily run for a few months but after that we don't know.

FILTER
- Mobil 1 M1-101

USAGE
- About 5% highway

NOTES
- Cold winter, plugged it in several times this year
- Filter ran for 2 OCIs (about 14000km)
- Analysis done by Toromont/Caterpilar

The higher Fe could be due to a lot of short trips over the winter. And we did have an especially brutal winter.
I think Duron 0W-30 is a decent oil but it does shear a lot which is probably a good thing in the G6.

BTW, are you really running M1 0W-40 straight this time?

With the completely different usage, I don't think the results are directly comparable. I can't say I am disappointed with the Duron with how tough this OCI was.

And yes Caterham, I am running straight 0w40

Actually, with her driving routine being closer to what it used to be for a few months I'm interested to see how much oil it uses. The usage was down on the Duron but again with different driving schedule. I am curious if the thicker oil is helping that.

But you don't have an oil consumption issue at all.
Averaging a pint of top oil in 7,500 kms is nothing.
So you're trying a grade heavier than required oil (with all the associated disadvantages) as an experiment on an engine with normal oil usage?
Are you trying to drop the oil consumption to zero that you had with the 65/35 CAT blend and PC SS?
Even for the sake of argument you do have lower oil consumption with the 40 grade, is it worth it?

I usually council those with 2-3 times your oil consumption to stick with the specified grade as long as the engine is still running well with no plug fouling or tail pipe smoke (you usually need to be burning more than a liter in 1,000 miles for that to occur).
The disadvantages of the heavier oil aren't worth what is usually only a marginal reduction in oil consumption.

No, all of that is way more thought than I put into it!

It was on sale, I grabbed it thinking I could blend it or just run it. When it came time to change it, I had not given it any more thought so I poured it in.

I'll likely just go back to straight PP or M1 next time. Probably lean more toward PP as it seems to get a bit better sale than M1.

Of course this is all subject to change...
