I will take Dunlop Tires for $1000 please Alex...

Answer: What are Dunlop Grandtrek AT20

My 05 Tacoma came with them and they were EXACTLY as you describe. 3 sets on my Tacoma before I said forget it and put some Revo's on. I think Goodyear makes those tires for Dunlop.

Yes...the Goodyear RT/S were the most horrible tires, I was stupid and put them as replacement sets on both Rodeo's, cost me $1400 at the time, for both trucks together.

Looks were nice, scarier then [censored] to drive either truck on anything but dry pavement, don't hold up in the desert heat, both sets developed bulges, one set had 2 tires that peeled like a banana

I looked at a set of Dunlop Grandtreks at Sam's. The treadwear rating on them is 180.

What's that, about 12,000 miles?

All you've done is to put the traction tires at the top of the list, and the highway tires at the bottom of the list.

While it does appear all I did was list them by type it goes past that. For instance the Wrangler ST's while FREAKIN HORRENDOUS were actually a better tire than the HP's I have now which are GOD AWFUL SCARY FREAKIN HORRENDOUS. If you read what I wrote about the GY tires in general you would see I mentioned all the Wranglers I have had, regardless of which model, had the problems I listed.

The ones at the top lasted a little longer and had slightly better traction overall but had a rougher ride. The ones at the bottom didn't last quite as long and were awful tractiuon wise but gave a slightly better ride. I place more value on tread life and wet/snow traction than ride comfort and noise but that is important as well.

When taken as a whole that is how I feel those tires stack up. If it makes you feel any better I can name a bunch of AS tires that eat up the AT GY's at the top of that list in all areas( Michelin LTX M/S, Firestone Destination LE, and Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza just to name 3 ). Only makes sense that the AT styles would be at the top and the AS at the bottom as I was comparing GY to GY. Compare GY to other brands and there would be a lot of AS tires above those GY AT's. All of them in that list flat out stunk!

NHHEMI, Sounds like you've really had your share of bad tires! My last set was the AT/S and never had a problem with tread wear or balancing they were good in dry and rain just not the best in snow. I got two years and 20,000 miles before I sold them at about half tread. (funny >) And my Tacoma has the dunlop grantrek on it,(factory rims and tires from an 07) and no problems with them either. Haven't got to try them in snow yet but in the rain or dry pavement the truck feels great and has tons of grip with excellent stopping / cornering in the rain. Now my X-terrains, that's a hole nother story

My main concern / dislike with goodyears I've had (and other brands as well) is the dry rot cracking in very little time and miles. Brand new garage kept vehicles with about 10,000 miles and a year of time showing cracking around the tread (mainly). My michelins didn't display this till much later and then it wasn't no where near as severe.

Really be careful with those Dunlops in the bad weather. They are, or were anywayy, notorious for poor wet weather traction. Especially on snow and ice. At least back when I bought the Tacoma that came with them( 2005 )everyone was having trouble with them. It was all over the Toyota foruums. Balancing issues all over the place. I just could not get a set to balance on my Tacoma. I swear if I held a glass of cream while driving down the highway in about 2 miles I would have had a glass of butter. I also read a lot of stories that they wore out very fast but as I replaced mine so fast I never found out.

Actually, check out the reviews on Tirerack from actual owners. They rank 65 out of 67 tires and rate a 2.5 out of 10 for would you buy again. All but 2 categories( ride comfort and noise )are yellow, pink, or red. That is not good. You want to see all green on a tire and dark green if possible in the reviews.

Here is the rankings:

Here are the individual reviews:

Some, like yourself, have had good luck with them but these are a bad tire for most folks.

I never had problems with balancing the Goodyear AT/S tires or any GY's for that matter. I had problems mainly with tread wear( they wear out really fast for me even with religious 5K rotations and proper inflation )and they would lose air. Once they got to about 1/2 tread( less than a year )they were like driving on ski's.

All of these long winded explanations are nothing more than what I stated before. The traction tires are in the top of your list, the highway tires are at the bottom of your list. You keep restating the same stuff over and over again.

You don't listen and/or have poor reading comprehension skills then because it went way beyind that. What is your point anyway? How are you adding to this thread? All you are doing is being a tool. Lame.
