Well if they are a roller motor, then they do not as much as the older flat-tapper designs did. But when I put an after-market cam in my old '92 Camaro (roller cam), I still followed a break in procedure with Castrol HD 30w conventional oil just to be safe...
Again, ven with the additives in the new RP oil, I'd still feel safer breaking in anything on a thicker conventional oil. Rotella seems to be the favorite around here with the race motor people. Also, he could just usse the conventional oil of his choice and buy the Lucas breaking booster additive and add it to the standard oil. That would give it the added protection needed for break-in.
