Hello everyone! What do you think would be a good oil to use at 700 mi. on a new Ford engine? It will be the first oil change but it's too soon to use a synthetic so I need to choose a mineral oil. I'll use this only to 5000 mi. where I'll start synthetic.

Why? I'd go with synthetic right up front. It won't hurt anything, so why wait? If it HAS to be a mineral oil, I'd suggest Havoline.

im breaking in a new car also and have around 450 miles on it. im gonna change the first oil @ 1000 with chevron then again @4000 with chevron then ill go synthetic at 7000.

I'd wait until you hit 1000 miles, then switch to synthetic - why not?. I have the same engine, and have had good luck with Mobil 1 5w-30.

I ran Chevron 5w30 for the first change and then switched to synthetic in my SOHC 4.0L Ranger. I've run Chevron, RP, GC and PP. So far the best UOA's have been on GC, but I have not complete the first OCI of PP so I don't know how it holds up yet. You can put synthetic in now if you'd like, it won't hurt anything.

The ranger had semi syn. in it from the factory. I have run to the 2500 to 3000 mile mark before changing the oil (synthetic). This was on a 04' ranger then an 07' F150. Go get a EAO filter and some 5/30 Amsoil and be done for a year!

Well, I decided to go with Motorcraft 5W-30 Semi-Synthetic and a Motorcraft filter. We'll see how that works out. I've got the Amsoil eao-11 filter on the way for next time.
